COMICS: Blue Marvel, Skrulls, Inhumans, Silver Surfer And More Teased For Marvel's INFINITY

'Infinity' is Marvel's Free Comic Book Day (May 4th) offering but it also has large ramifications for the comic book publisher moving forward. The free issue from Jonathan Hickman and Jim Cheung will kickoff a major Avengers event with tie-ins from the cosmic line and a few other Marvel NOW! titles. Over in his weekly column at CBR, Marvel E-I-C Axel Alonso talked about the looming event and who will and won't be making their presence known. Here's a summary below:

  • The series will shine the spotlight on cosmic concepts and characters, namely Thanos, Nova, the Guardians of the Galaxy and the Inhumans.

  • One of the goals of Infinity will be to bring the Inhumans to the same level of prominence as Nova and the Guardians of the Galaxy.

  • Axel says it's not unlikely that Silver Surfer also shows up but cautions not to expect Genis Vell.

  • Axel also says it's not impossible that Blue Marvel shows up as well in response to a question about possibly seeing Blue Marvel take on Thanos.

  • The Skrulls show up in the event and they have 'beef' with the Kree, as per the norm.

  • No plans for Howard the Duck but with Leinil Yu on art duties in Avengers (who has a penchant for inserting the oddball character), you can't say a cameo won't happen.

Are you looking forward to this event or burned out after Avengers vs X-Men? Sound off below in the usual spot.

I actually kinda like Blue Marvel...he's sort of like Sentry in that he's supposed to be like Superman but Blue Marvel actually had some decent writing, and he wasn't a psychotic schizo like Sentry was.

He's just rather new to the comic book world, I hope he gets a spot in this and I hope he defeats/stalemates Thanos...he's supposed to be like Superman, he just needs some good feats and stories to put him there. He still needs time to develop...

Silver Surfer is awesome, I wish he had an ongoing series.

Very interested in this. Just hope they don't mess up Thanos's story to being the usual villain. Because he's not.

Hell f'n yeah for the Blue Marvel. Its about time. While BM is super powerful, he nothing like superman. He is basically a dark matter generator, with intelligence in the reed richards level. He's spanked Hyperion in his last outing. Stalemated the Sentry on his first. The man is a beast. Been hoping that they take him cosmic for a while. His powers literally scream marvel cosmic. They need to use this man more. Would love to see him go up against some of the more powerful cosmic threats.

@marvel72
agreed on Hickman, I read him if he wrote archie comics. The man is a visionary.

Dont care about inhumans, hard to feel excited for this after reading the above. Everything at marvel is now nothing more than a gimmick to make more money and get new readers. Fingers crossed, but not going to hold my breath.

Blue Marvel would be tight though, loved his mini.

I have a feeling this will be a great Marvel event. Hickman is a great writer.

Its about time Blue Marvel gets some attention. He has potential for popularity but has yet to be properly utilized.

yeah, if Hickman is writing it I expect it will be really good. Unlike Age of Ultron which should have been titled Age of Standing Around Talking.

Not surprising that they don't want to use Silver Surfer anymore.

Marvel's "events" have been let downs. I gave Age of Ultron three issues (mainly for Hitch's art) and I couldn't go on. If this was anyone besides Hickman I wouldn't be excited for this but it is so I am. I loved Secret Warriors, his FF run and his Avengers run has been awesome. I have faith that he can handle all this stuff. As for Blue Marvel, the only reason Alonso mentioned him is because a fan asked if BM would be involved in infinity. His full answer seemed to be one of those "you never know" type of deals. I don't think they plan to use him in this.

@ckal : I couldn't agree more!

@indigobolt956 : I good place to start would be the

Annihilation (2006) crossover - (Thanos, Drax, Novas, Silver Surfer, Super Skrull, Ronan, Annihilation, Heralds of Galactus, sequels and spin offs)

The Nova series, written by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning.

Annihilation Conquest crossover (Prologue, Quasar, Starlord, Saga, Wraith, Nova, Anihilation Conquest)

Planet Hulk/ World War Hulk

then:

Guardians of the Galaxy (2008)

and then the War of Kings, Realm of Kings crossover and The Thanos Imperative.

and The Infinity Gauntlet for good measure.

I wasn't interested until they said Blue Marvel..How much you want to bet they kill him?? I'm expecting typical Marvel and underused Black characters....Remember Goliath anyone??
