COMICS: First Look At Marvel NOW!'s CABLE AND X-FORCE #1

The man who brought together the original X-Force will once again lead a brand new incarnation of the team into battle in an ongoing series from Dennis Hopeless and Salvador Larroca. Click to see who joins him on the cover of issue #1..

Quite a different team to the previous lineup - some would say a not as impressive one? Dennis Hopeless speaks to CBR about the new team members, and what we can expect from the first story arc of the series.

"You have Cable, Forge, Domino, Colossus and Dr. Nemesis. In my mind this is a crime series, so I tried to cast the book like you would a bank robbery. This isn't a family or a school. It's a crew. A safe cracker may hate her getaway man, but at the end of the night, she still needs him to drive the car. Cable puts the team together for their skills, not because he thinks they'll get along. Our first arc is the story of how Cable and his X-Force become the world's Most Wanted mutant terrorists. You know how at the beginning and end of every "Mission Impossible" movie Tom Cruise is a spy, but in the middle he's an international criminal on the run from the whole world? That's what we're doing here. How hard is it to save the world when you're also on the run from the law?"

lol I knew....i just KNEW...that Cable was gonna be involved in XForce once he wakes up. guess i was right.
Dr Nemesis, GREAT makeover by the way.
And good to see Forge back, and NOT trying to kill his friends for once. (unless he actually is lol)

I knew Cable was going to be involved in a X-Force team going forward. Given how Colossus is character wise right now, this team is right up his alley.

I'm buying it.

I don't know about the eye-patch but the glowing eye was on his techno-side. If you read X-Sanction, at the end he is cured of all techno virus (i believe), so no glowing eye or techno-virus arm. Actually he should have no arm at all, which is why he has a new robotic arm that Forge probably built.

^ sorry, I think when he was healed all his techno-organic tissue reverted back to regular flesh

Looks like he has a regular arm (looks like a clenched fist at about thigh level) and that the freakish robot thing is just an extension/tool/weapon.

I thought Cable was 6' 8" and that Colossus in armored form was 7' 5".

Anyhow, not feeling these designs, especially Cable's

We've talked quite a bit about story, so let's wrap things up by touching on your partner for the new book. You're working with Salvador Larroca on this series, an Eisner Award-winning artist. How is your partnership coming along?

Salva's embracing everything that was cool about that over-the-top 90's X-Force aesthetic, but he's given it all a modern swagger. And wait till you see the TECH in this book. This isn't the sleek and stylish Stark Tech he's been drawing over in "Invincible Iron Man." It's more like the kind of crazy robotics and guns you might build from spare parts in a post-apocalyptic alien junkyard. Salva's a beast.

LOVE this. Can't wait.

If they're gonna do the throwback thing and put Cable in charge, then there should be some New Mutants on the team considering that's were cable got half is original team from, and I think the New Mutants is getting cancelled anyways.

This looks very very interesting. Marvel Now is shaping up pretty well. Only seen a few comics I don't want to check out.

Cable's arm is normal length. He is wearing an exoskeleton hand probably built and designed by Forge. I have a feeling that Forge has helped him somehow hold back the techno organic virus ? I though Cable was dead when was he brought back ?

@Siggisuperman

He came back during the X-Sanction event. Though I don't think they clearly explained how, but I might just need to reread. At the end he is completely healed of all techno-organic virus and restored to human flesh.

which should technically make him a god again like during his Cable & Deadpool series

This looks cool to me. I've been a big fan of all the X-force incarnations and I'm glad Cable is back, I was actually guessing he was going to be in the Thunderbolts but he didn't make that team. Dr. Nemesis has a cool new design. I'm guessing the last X-Force is disbanding since they keep dropping hints of it in the last few issues, none of the team members seem to want to continue (killing) anymore.

@alcoholica
Yeah he should be, but theyll depower him again some how. How much would be the key. Or they can make it like back in his new mutant days, when he was hiding his powers. He wouldn't even need a team if he came back full strength. They depowered nate grey when he came back and theyll do it to cable too.

I did always want an ongoing with them two and rachel, but that will never happen.

AlcoholicA - 9/14/2012, 9:41 AM
@fortycals

Yeah they WILL probably depower him like Nate. Seems like all the Summers males (nate GREY but whatever) got screwed this year, lol.

I can't imagine him hiding his powers cause all those guys know already, unless he's claiming he doesn't have them anymore.

A Nate/Cable/Rachel trio would be mind blowing
