Check out an Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #7 preview which features the character that USA Today says was the best new character of 2011!

Here is a little excerpt from Brian Michael Bendis about Morales...

“I love Miles. I just adore him. But the real gift is that every day somebody gets a hold of me to tell me how much they love him too,” explained Bendis. “The good news is we haven't even gotten to the good stuff yet because Miles is about to discover so many things including some very hard lessons. As unrealistic as it is (speaking in comics terms) I'm really glad each artist continues to make Spidey's eyes 'move' with his emotions. It really has become part of the character. Great artwork.

I'm not crazy about this "new" Spiderman. To me he's just a cheap copycat. No one can ever hope to replace Peter Parker. Parker is Spiderman. Not this kid.

You know what? I'd have no problem with this character if he wasn't a replacement Spider-Man. Comics do need more ethnically diverse heroes, villains, and other characters. The concept of the character is great, and the costume looks amazing.

But (at least, in my eyes) Peter Parker is the ONLY Spider-Man. Miles Morales seems like a total rip off of that character, from what I've seen, he's the same wise-ass character with pretty much the same powers, just a different skin colour.

He would've been so much easier to accept, in my opinion, if he was a brand new character, not a replacement for Peter Parker, not even the new Spider-Man. Having similar powers to Spider-Man is fine, but the fact he has the name, and the wise-ass attitude to match, it seems so unoriginal.
The way they've gone about him replacing Peter is probably the best way to do it, but I still think it would've been better if he took an entirely new hero name. He could've been the Ultimate Scarlet Spider!
