COMICS: Marvel's Superman, The SENTRY, Will Return As Part Of The Line's FRESH START

Marvel's Fresh Start initiative has revealed a number of changes (some welcome, others surprising) but did anyone foresee The Sentry making a return? Jeff Lemire and Kim Jacinto lead the new title.

Former standout DC Comics-turned-Marvel writer Jeff Lemire (Sweet Tooth, Animal Man, Old Man Logan ongoing)  and artist Kim Jacinto are launching a new Sentry comic for Marvel as part of the company's "Fresh Start" initiative.

"The Sentry is a fascinating character. I absolutely loved the original Sentry series by Paul Jenkins and Jae Lee when it first came out, so I jumped at the chance to write the character," said Lemire in an interview with CB.  He would also go on to confirm that Sentry's dark alter-ego the Void would also be playing a prominent role.  However, he stressed that his new series would not simply be retelling the same origin story from Jenkins and Lee.

The new ongoing Sentry book will debut in June.  Expect more details to be revealed in the months leading up to its release.

My first introduction to Sentry was through the Ultimate Fantastic Four comic series and then the Marvel Zombies series. I was fascinated by him when they described him as a malevolent character in the Avengers cartoon with Nighthawk. So can someone tell me where to start with his true origin?

Thanks

Let’s get him in the MCU. My casting pick is Henry Cavill.

@MrKnight - skarsgard would be an interesting choice. I also think someone in the lines of a Gosling, who is my pick for a rebooted Cyclops, or Chris Messina would be interesting.

@IKidYouNotMan - I only know Sentry from Siege. And if he's always been as savage as he is in that story (which I loved) then I would be really surprised if Disney agrees to put him in their movies.

Gotta love the sentry... Though, the last time we seen him he was a horseman of apocalypse. Interested to see if they either brush over that or it's set before that happened.

[frick]. Yes.

DC brings back the red trunks and Marvel gives me the perfect answer to jump ship. With easily over 2,000 DC comics and 99% of them being bought in the last 10 years, I for one am looking forward to this immensely. New 52 is a step back but Rebirth was solid. The Bendis era is something I'm open to skipping at this point.

Vigor

@DanMcNice - I hope not. I'm not a fan of anything superman-level powered
Chewtoy
Chewtoy - 3/6/2018, 9:52 AM
@DanMcNice - I doubt the MCU is going to rush to add another blonde white guy, let alone make him the most powerful of all of their characters, dropping Captain Marvel back a rung.

So unless he's used as a one-film Villain for Capt. Marv (which might be possible) or race-changed, I think he's not likely to get a feature.
