The original hobgoblin plot is still one of my favorites of all time. It was a sweet mystery and his battles with spiderman were awesome. I admit I didn't read any green goblin stuff until later in those digest reprints.

@JoshW: Wasn't Ned Leeds revealed to be the original Hobgoblin back in ASPM #289 from 1986?

Correction: It was 1987 in ASPM #289 and Spider-Man vs. Wolverine.

By the time Kingsley was revealed to be the Hobgoblin, Marvel had gone to seed and we're CONSTANTLY ret-conning and revising their stories, so I never really accepted that he was the true Hobgoblin, being that this development occurred during the DeFalco/Harris era.

I just figured that Marvel would AGAIN pull a swerve as they did with Macendale taking over the identity! Back in early '83 a similar swerve happened in ASpM#245 when Lefty Donovan was used as a decoy! Not letting the saga end with Leeds ruined it for me!
