Bleeding Cool point out that a CGC 9.6 copy of The Avengers #1 was sold for a record $250,000 by Metropolis Collectibles last week. With the movie a little over six months away, it appears as if interest in the superhero team is at an all time high. Written by Stan Lee with art from Jack Kirby, the book features the Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Ant-Man and Wasp (the founding team of Avengers) and was released September 1963.

Metropolis Collectibles COO Vincent Zurzolo had this to say: "This exceptional copy is tied with two other copies of Avengers #1 CGC in 9.6. The other two copies have never been brought to market. Their owners have no interest in selling. This makes this the only publicly sold copy of a CGC 9.6 to date. We are very proud to make this the highest price anybody has ever paid for a copy of Avengers #1."

Phew, that's a lot of money, eh? Would you part with a quarter of a million dollars for this comic if you had the cash? Feel free to share your thoughts below.
