Ummm.... Didn't they already do a huge Watcher event with Earth X?
Which was spectacular, by the way.

I get a feeling that they'll try to borrow some of those beats here.
If they do, "F" for originality --- Earth X was the most comprehensive tie-in for the entirety of the Marvel Universe that there has ever been.

cyked - 3/28/2014, 9:43 AM
And Marvel does this whole --- "And Nothing Will Ever Be The Same" --
"Must Have/Can't Miss" --- "Oh My God This Is Gonna Be Awesome" blah blah fanfare every year. Very, very boy-who-cried-wolf type of thing.

Marvel, I like you. But seriously.... DELIVER this time & I won't be as likely to roll my eyes the next time you over-hype an event.

Dark Knight Returns, Watchmen, Kingdom Come, Earth X..... now that's good storytelling, and 3 of those were DC!

Earth X sucked. Some of the worst characterization I have seen.

I am looking forward to this though. It will be used as a catalyst to develop story arch from all the tie ins. Steve will finally find out the Illuminati wiped his mind, We will hopefully find out what happened in the Cancerverse, what happened to Sam Alexanders father, etc.

Will be a good event.

So basically the story is questioning "Who killed the watcher" so essentially - its already rather pointless as its essentially stopping the story from progressing while they discover who killed him.

@cyked
"Dark Knight Returns, Watchmen, Kingdom Come, Earth X..... now that's good storytelling, and 3 of those were DC!"

Can only talk for 'Dark Knight Returns' however that was shit - one of the worst comics I've ever read. The animated version removed most of that - but my god, if you'd actually read the comic you wouldn't be saying that. It is the worst drawn most boring pile of crap I've ever read. It spends all the time focusing on Superman moaning - complaining about life before [frick]ing Wonder Woman so hard that it creates Tidal Waves (Yes that was part of the plot)

Wonder Woman begs Superman to [frick] her hard like the old days;
www.the-medium-is-not-enough.com/images/MillerWonderSuperman.jpg

Not to mention - the 'part 2' sequel that continued to drive the series into the ground - however if I addressed that piece of shit we'd be here all day.

Uatu hasn't even been an official Watcher for some time now. Why should we care about him?

NOW you think marvel's abusing the event concept?! They've been doing it since SIEGE! Too many events/crossovers and their usually terrible and pointless. Early 2000's marvel was at the best point with house of M and Civil war, and then Planet Hulk (it was all kinda downhill after Invasion) The heroic Age was a brief respit but it didn't last as usual. Also agree with others, we need back Nova Prime.

the only Marvel comics even that has been worth a damn in some time was Battle of the Atom

While Earth X was fantastic, it wasn't in continuity. I'm sure you know that, but this looks to be significantly different.

@ AdamCawa

Even though Uatu hasn't been an official Watcher, he is still there, Watching, and has tons of valuable information.

But its not like he sees the future. He just has a bunch of knowledge about past events. I guess the real question is, why would anyone want to know about events that have already happened?

@ Magus and Scarilian.

Magus -- Earth X sucked, huh? Okay.
Yeah, I've been reading comics for over 30 years and I haven't seen anyone ever even try to ATTEMPT to merge the motives, plotlines, and consequences of the entire Marvel Universe. We're talking the Watcher, the Kree, Asgardians, X-Men, Machine Man, Avengers, Black Panther, Fantastic Four, Galactus, The Eternals, the Inhumans, Franklin Richards, the Original Human Torch, the Atlanteans.... basically every note that has touched upon the pages of the MU with the Earth as a backdrop.
Yeah, I guess comprehensive storytelling sucks for folks who hadn't already actually read and followed the character development on all those disparate titles and plotlines.

Earth X was Fantastic.

And Scarillian ---- yes, I did read Dark Knight Returns. This was back in the day when we didn't rely on cartoons to tell the story for us. We had to read. Use our imaginations, give the characters life in our heads and actually make an effort to suspend reality and get into the book for it's own merit.

Maybe it's a generational thing. Lazy, sloppy storytelling is prevalent nowadays. That "Trial of Jean Grey" they just put out was absolute character assassination and lazy crap.... as is most of the stuff they put out nowdays. And I LOVED Bendis on Daredevil.... but you guys probably think that was crap, too. It was brilliant.

"The biggest Marvel event this year!" More like this month.

good statement actually... it seems marvel is always having "greatest of the year" specials. At least Marvel is good at movies...

This actually looks good and it makes sense for Nova to discover the Watcher is dead as in his ongoing a relationship has been forged between the Watcher and him.

Can you guys answer me something?

It's not really related to this particular event, but more to Cataclysm in the Ultimate Universe (which, tbh, was a huge letdown).

Wasn't it stated that if Galactus were to die, he would explode and create a big bang, thus destroying the universe he's in and creating another?

Now, spoiler for those who don't know what happens at the end of Cataclysm:
Galactus is sent to the Negative Zone, left there to starve.
Couldn't he create another universe in the Negative Zone? Is Marvel preparing another universe (maybe some kind of reboot like when the Ultimate Universe began)?

I hope this is good. Waid is a good writer. I didn't read Battle of the Atom. I chose to read Infinity since I've been following all of Hickman's Marvel (plus East of West) since he started on Avengers and I've loved all of it so far. Infinity was great and it left off with a legitimate promise that that bigger threats were on their way and reminded the heroes that the collapse of the multiverse was still left unsolved. I can't wait to see where that goes next.

I missed Inhumanity.

Age of Ultron was crap. A complete waste of time. Wish I could go back in time like Wolverine and slap issue 1 out of my hand at the comic store.

Spider-Island was just a confusing let down.

What other recent events have they had?

@CorndogBuglar

Maybe someone wanted to try and read his mind and see all of the Marvel women in "compromising" positions throughout history. He then killed Uatu so that only he could have the all glorious spank bank.

@ Mikari

There has been very little in the Ultimate universe worth reading. If they were to do some kind of reboot, I would want it to be something drastically different. Like reboot everyone to our current timeline, start everyone's stories from scratch. Limit themselves to no more than 50 heroes globally.

Maybe have Gwen Stacy be the one who was bitten by the spider. A totally new lineup of X-Men. Captain America is President and an "Avenger". Stuff like that.

I think I would really like a Marvel based Universe that is much more grounded in reality. Like I don't mind the super powers, but the technology that exists in comics, the expansive bases, that stuff should be done away with.

And a Universe with real consequences, but not for shock value like the Ultimate universe has used.
