Jason Aaron Gives His Thoughts On [SPOILER] Becoming The New God Of Thunder

For all who read Thor #8, or for those who view the article found HERE, you’d know that the new Thor was none other than Jane Foster! Even though it had its side effects, it a challenge she wants to face. In a new interview with CBR, writer Jason Aaron revealed why he decided to make this decision. “Jane has been a part of Thor's mythology almost from the very beginning. Certainly her role and her character have changed and evolved over the years, but I like the fact of her finally getting her chance to carry the hammer around as Doctor Jane Foster now. I like that sort of comparison and contrast between that original Thor dynamic with Don Blake.”

He then continued and told how he thought making Jane the new Thor added a good twist in the comics. “I've always talked about this being something that, to me, stays true to the original premise and the original promise of the inscription on the hammer; that anyone who was worthy could pick it up, be transformed, and get the power of Thor. So having that be Jane, to me, just puts a nice little bow on it.”

Now as we saw in the final pages of that edition, Jane is facing many other challenges (primarily breast cancer). Jason Aaron talked about that and told how that will affect the storyline going forward. “Of course it's not really as simple as all that. It's not just about Jane Foster carrying the hammer around and being Thor. You can see from that last page that there's a little more to her story and her challenge. As we know from her last few appearances, Jane has been dealing with breast cancer.” He then told the point in which he thought everyone else was going to find out the truth about Thor’s identity, “When we last saw her in "Thor" #6 it was revealed that her cancer had taken a turn for the worse, which I thought at the time would be a big red flag. I thought that would be the point where everybody knew it was Jane.”

He also says even though Jane Foster hasn’t “given up hope,” she will continue to fight as Thor! Why? Because she knows it’s needed. “In her narration in issue #8 she says that she has to keep her secret, because if people knew they would try to stop her from what she's doing. She's making this sacrifice and taking this risk because she knows there needs to be a Thor and right now it's her.”

How do you feel about Jane Foster becoming the new Thor? Sound off below with your thoughts!

God this series is/was so bad. It needs to die and Jason Aaron should never be allowed to work on comics again.

So Thor's hammer was dropped on the moon when someone picked it up.

How could Jane get on the moon and lift it?

Aaron was doing such a good job on God of Thunder until they started renumbering them. Too bad the Marvel executives pushed him to do this shit.

It honestly makes the most sense, she's a doctor, she's worthy and she needs it to not die. Or maybe it's killing her? So either way they need to cure her cancer

Marvel is trying so hard to reinvent the old heroes from there crappy Secret Wars, The new Avengers, Doc Ock taking over Spidermans body, Spider Gwen, Iceman being Gay, Now this. All they should have done was to just create new heroes. All this to cater to those complaining about the heroes not being diverse enough. You still don't have a Hispanic(Miles Morales doesn't count) or Asian superhero. So while catering the real crybabies of society your true fanbase of readers are going to stop buying and Marvel is going to lose more money than they did before. Thor was my favorite Marvel book before this female Thor appeared and its exactly where I stopped and I'm glad I did.
