As noted, 2022 marks the 60th anniversary of Spider-Man since he first swung into the pages of Amazing Fantasy #15. Now, Marvel Comics is celebrating the occasion - and the launch of Amazing Spider-Man #1 - with some spectacular variant covers coming our way this April.

Adorning many of your favourite ongoing series, these showcase Marvel's heroes and villains suited up Spidey-style. Created by incredible artists such as Dan Jurgens, Kaare Andrews, Rahzzah, Kyle Hotz, Declan Shalvey, Pete Woods, Rod Reis, David Baldeón, Bengal, Romina Jones, and more, these covers feature brand-new costume designs inspired by Marvel's greatest icon.

The characters who have been transformed into Spider-Man include Mary Jane, Captain Marvel, Carnage, Iron Man, Emma Frost, Shang-Chi, Silk, Silver Surfer, Thor, and Venom.

After a forgettable few years for the web-slinger, Spidey's star has definitely risen recently (particularly with the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home). We're sure Amazing Spider-Man #1 won't be the only way the hero's legacy is celebrated this year, and there are rumblings Ben Reilly is going to get his own series as a Spider-Man protecting Hollywood rather than New York.

Going back to these variant covers, though, and our favourite is definitely the X-Men's Emma Frost.

Check out some of the covers below and keep checking back here for more!

Don't really see the point giving Silk a make-over, given that she's already a Spider themed character. Shang-Chi is probably my favorite of these though

@bkmeijer - I agree. I liked Shang-Chi the best of all.

MJ looks too good in a Spidey outfit.

Also not the only one doing Spidey mashups. GuilhermeRM_art on twitter did a Samus Aran Spidey mix.

@Spike101 - Marvel used to be known as The House of Ideas. When they had them.

@Waddles - true. I guess realistically they have struggled to come up with the next top ranking character or plot line for a long time now. Luckily for us most of the older stuff is superb and still timeless to an extent.

@GeneralZod - I forgot about those days. Great slogan. Especially when it was backed by solid stories.

@tripttwe - I highly recommend the book, "Marvel Comics The Untold Story," by Sean Howe. It is a deep dive into the Timely/Marvel empire, but with a big focus on the 60s, 70s, 80s and the catastrophe of the 90s. Most interesting was all of the post-early 60s creativity (under Stan's leadership, and then Jim Shooter's) that was being unleashed in the 70s and 80s. At the end of the day, you can have great artists, but if you have shitty writers, none of it matters. Marvel had some great writers (esp in the 70s) in Thomas, Gerber, Wolfman, Moench, Claremont, Stern, Conway, Wein, etc. that were just oozing out new characters and fresh stories.

@GeneralZod - "At the end of the day, you can have great artists, but if you have shitty writers, none of it matters."

100% truth.

I wish I could send this to Kevin Feige and remind him the same rules apply to the big (and small) screen.

Great actors + 💩 scripts=0

I need a sytmbiote Spider-Man & Venom variant by McFarlane, a Ben Reily by Bagley, and a Spider-Man 2099 by Alex Ross. These 3 variants would get me back in the comic shop. $10.00/ea.
