We met Captain Carter for the first time in Marvel Studios' What If...?, but another version of the character is set to report for duty in her own comic book series next month.

Jamie McKelvie, best known for his work on characters like Captain Marvel and the Young Avengers is both writing Captain Carter and designing the character's brand-new look. McKelvie will be joined by artist Marika Cresta (Star Wars: Doctor Aphra) and the five-issue limited series will introduce this World War II hero in an adventure that will find Peggy Carter as a woman out of time.

However, Peggy will have to face the reappearance of an old foe in the modern-day and then decide what she stands for as the wielder of the shield. Teasing what's to come, Marvel Comics has released a brand new trailer for Captain Carter featuring never before seen artwork from the series.

"There's a whole load of story meat in the premise that interests me," McKelvie recently told SYFY Wire. "It's almost 80 years since the end of World War II. That's a big difference to the 20 years Steve Rogers was in the ice in the original comics timeline. It's a huge gap, and so much has changed since then. Even the decade since MCU Cap woke up has seen a lot of big shifts in the world."

"So that's immediately exciting to me - how do you deal with waking up in such a radically different world, with every anchor in your life long gone?" the writer teased.

Check out this new look at Captain Carter #1 ahead of its March 9 release below:

I remember a time when comics used to be the main medium driving Marvel/DC storylines and storytelling.

Marvel Comics in particular are now too busy either following the MCU or recycling their own decade old events.

It shows how they don't have confidence in women because they have to create stories characters off of successful male characters. This gender swapping is more of an insult. Imo

@Lokiwasright - wouldn't it show they actually do have confidence in women that they dare give them the mantles of successful characters?
