In July 2019, the world of the X-Men was shattered and reborn on Krakoa in the pages of House of X from visionary writer Jonathan Hickman. In the years since, we've experienced a new age of mutant storytelling, filled with bold ideas, astonishing character developments, and revolutionary new takes on the mutant metaphor.

It's also provided Marvel Studios with a lot of content to adapt for its eventual reboot of the X-Men in theaters!

Now, the next seminal shift in the history of the X-Men is on the horizon, but first, Marvel Comics will present the final act of the Krakoan Age this June in X-Men #35.

This will also be the milestone 700th issue of Uncanny X-Men and will feature an epic-length story by acclaimed writers and artists who shaped the Krakoan Age including Gerry Duggan, Kieron Gillen, Al Ewing, Lucas Werneck, Joshua Cassara, and more. The giant-sized issue will also include a story of family by legendary writer Chris Claremont and offer a glimpse of things to come in the new X-Men titles launching this summer.

"All good things must come to an end, and as good of a thing as the Krakoan era has been for mutantkind...its time has come at last," reads the solicitation text. "The tragedy and triumph of Fall of the House of X, the madness and mystery of Rise of the Powers of X...they have all come to their end and led to this moment that will change the future of mutantkind for years to come."

On closing out this period of the mutant mythos, Senior Editor Jordan D. White said, "Being a part of the Krakoan experiment has been a true thrill. Honestly - in many ways it echoed the experience of mutantkind itself in the era. We worked differently, we tried new things, we survived incredible new experiences."

"I consider myself extremely fortunate to have worked with such fantastically talented creators throughout the era, and working on the glorious ending is truly bittersweet," he concluded. "I will miss it with my whole heart, but I do know...Krakoa will live on within us forever."

Shame it's not actually X-Men Vol 1 issue 700.

@marvel72 - I quit buying physical comics around the 2 year mark of Heroes Return - adding to a FF 17 to 400+ run with reboots and bullshit was no longer any fun.

@Batmangina - Yeah I'm on and off with Comics, I stopped shortly after Onslaught storyline. Then I came back for World War Hulk but only reading Trade Paperbacks and started my omnibus collection. Hickman's House Of X and Powers Of X got me reading floppy Comics again, then January 2023 I cancelled my pull list.
Just collect stuff from Silver,Bronze and Copper Age be it graded or floppy.

Omnibusus are a great way to read expensive comics and runs from certain writers and artists.

@marvel72 - I went digital when I found zero day releases in the mid 2000s - I pay for Marvel + DC apps and just download everything.

I've got more digital comics on the HDD in my office that I stream to the iPad than I will ever be able to read in ten lifetimes.

I did love that Immortal Hulk run and Dan Slott actually had a moment of originality with Superior Spider-Man

I loved Snyder and Capullo's Batman and a few others but the tentpole titles of my youth are long dead.

Last night's read pile was Don McGregor's Black Panther from Jungle Action in the mid 70s

Late Silver and Early Bronze Age are the gotos that never disappoint

@marvel72 - Yeah, you know they've completely ruined their numbering convention when you have to combine two titles with multiple volumes to say it's the 700th issue.
marvel72
marvel72 - 3/7/2024, 2:38 PM
@CorndogBurglar - It's shit, all they need to do is have one volume and have good jumping on points for new readers.

I started collecting X-Men in the early 200’s. I remember how big of a deal issue 300 was at the time.

Nothing epic about the cover. Generic. And the artist failed to keep the characters on the same line. So it looks like they are going down a hill.

Ah yes, Marvel Comics' infamous random ass numbering to shit out Milestone issues.
soberchimera
soberchimera - 3/6/2024, 4:03 PM
Maybe Marvel should court Scott Snyder or Rick Remender for the relaunch?
Doomsday8888
Doomsday8888 - 3/6/2024, 4:20 PM
@soberchimera
Remender will never work for Marvel ever again after his previous experience there and because of em, maybe he wont ever work for DC as well.

F*ckers cockblocked Morrison on New X-Men, Remender was supposed to handle Extreme X-Men after Secret Wars, Hickman got cockblocked as well and quickly had to "end" everything with Inferno.

Marvel doesn't deserve shit yet somehow they still get goats like Al Ewing, only because God has some mercy for my dear mutants but it's a never-ending battle...

P.S. Snyder is rumored to launch an "Ultimate Universe-type" line for DC Comics in the near future...as in this summer or some shit.
soberchimera
soberchimera - 3/7/2024, 11:49 AM
@Doomsday8888 - Wasn’t Earth One supposed to be DC’s “Ultimate” universe? I’d much rather him write a Flash or Aquaman Earth One.
Doomsday8888
Doomsday8888 - 3/7/2024, 11:54 AM
@soberchimera
Uh...sort of? I guess?
Like, they were always GNs and not ongoings like Marvel's Ultimate Universe, you feel me? So pretty different.

We have 0 official details for now, we'll see.

@grif - David Finch had a good run on the X-Men,would have loved to have seen Arthur Adams do the cover.

Classic X-Men #1 is one of his best covers.
