SPOILERS: SECRET EMPIRE #2 Featured A Return Guaranteed To Annoy And Confuse You

Secret Wars just got a whole lot more confusing thanks to a shock return which looks set to shake up both this event and the Marvel Universe as a whole to its very core. Find the details here...

Secret Empire #2 featured a lot of big twists and turns after the ramifications of Steve Rogers' actions in the last issue started being felt, and while he claimed not to be directly responsible for Rick Jones' execution and the destruction of Las Vegas, things just got a whole lot more confusing in the series.

In the final few pages, we suddenly get an artist change and are taken to an undisclosed location and an unknown time. There, we see a woman being pursued by the Serpent Society (a sign, perhaps, that this is the present day) through the woods. She's saved by a haggard man wearing a World War II uniform who declares himself to be Steve Rogers and says
that, "I’m just trying to get home."

Wait, what?! We have no idea what's going on here, but there are now a fair few fan theories doing the rounds. The most popular
is that Captain America has somehow been split in two and this is the "good" version of the hero. Another is that the Cosmic Cube somehow replaced the original Steve Rogers and that the one currently ruling over America on behalf of Hydra is an imposter or clone of some sort.

My theory? This could be the Ultimate Captain America who is now part of the new Marvel Universe.

We'll just have to wait and see, but feel free to share your theories in the comments section below.

@NoMeaning45 - I would love it if Captain Hydra were really the Ultimate Captain America. Real Cap is here to save the day. That is if either of them are UCA.

Ultimate Cap was rough around the edges, but it always seemed to me that he was better written as a "man out of time" than 616 cap, who has been in modern society for years. But I honestly think this is kobik's doing. Still, to hear "You think this letter stands for FRANCE?!?" In the current mcu by other 616 heroes would be hi-larious.

I see this less as backpedaling and more as placating. As gimmicky as Hydra Cap seemed I kinda wish they had just kept the Steve Rogers return until towards the end.

I mean, did anyone really believe that they were going to keep Steve evil?
