Announced last month, a new era for Earth's Mightiest Heroes is very nearly upon us! Written by Jed MacKay and drawn by Marvel's Stormbreaker artist C.F. Villa, The Avengers #1 will arrive this May, ushering an age ripe with grand-scale adventure and cosmic mystery just in time for the team’s milestone 60th anniversary.

We shared Daniel Acuña's amazing variant cover earlier this week, but now have two more to share with you.

The first is by Kael Ngu and shows the entire team in action. Captain Marvel. Iron Man. Thor. Black Panther. Captain America. Scarlet Witch. Vision. Ngu’s cover captures the incredible might of these seven legendary Avengers as they assemble for one of the greatest challenges in the team's 60-year history.

This group of icons will need every ounce of their power and more for what's coming as they become major players in Kang's final conquest and tackle bold, high-stakes missions that only Earth's Mightiest Heroes can hope to handle.

The next cover showcases Derrick Chew's breathtaking version of the Scarlet Witch.

Redeemed and more confident in her abilities than ever before, Wanda will be rejoining the Avengers in the new run, lending her unmatched magic prowess to the team’s daunting new missions. In addition to reuniting with old friends, Wanda will also be working alongside her ex-husband Vision for the first time in years. Will sparks fly or will old wounds resurface?

MacKay and Villa's The Avengers run will kick off with a saga that sees the team embrace a new divine purpose after they’re gifted with knowledge of The Tribulation Events, a series of grand-scale disasters that will spark upheaval throughout the known universe.

We got our first glimpse at MacKay's overarching plan in December's year-ending one-shot, Timeless, where readers followed Kang in his hunt for the unobtainable "Missing Moment." Now, a dangerous game is afoot and the prize is greater than anything imaginable.

Will the Avengers be able to triumph in the face of the Tribulation Events and learn the connection behind these earth-shattering threats and Kang’s quest? Or will they be reduced to mere pawns in an extraordinary scheme beyond their comprehension?

The Avengers #1 arrives in comic book stores on May 17.

Modern comic book covers are awful. All the characters do is pose. They're not punching any villain or show drama.

@GeneralZod - yeah. I do like these covers a lot, but they should stop doing that floating head/upper body thing movie posters do as well (which also should stop doing that)

@bkmeijer1 - Here are some random examples of action and drama in 20th century comic book covers. You don't see this in modern covers:

@GeneralZod -

not only that but

how many #1 covers do we have so far ??

I think doing #1's over and over and over makes you lose track of the continuity of the actual title,
that's one of the reasons I stopped buying comic books...

@GeneralZod - these are all pretty awesome except that Spider-Man one. That 4-panel cover is trash.

@GeneralZod - I really prefer that. Those already had some sort of story to tell on the cover

@bkmeijer1 - Precisely. The objective is to hook the prospective buyer on what calamity might befall the hero(s) or what villain s/he will go mano-a-mano with. Gil Kane was, IMHO, a master cover artist.

@thunderpun573 - Lmao. OK, to each his own. The ASM #4 is such a classic cover. This is my favorite Ditko Spidey cover:

@GeneralZod - yeah. Infinitely better than these movie poster knock-offs.

Guess relying on the characters' recognizability is enough to reel in audience these days.

@GeneralZod - lmao this one I like. No disrespect to the artists or anyone who digs it haha obviously looked like a classic issue but that 4-panel look just feels odd to me, I don’t think I’d ever seen that on a cover before

Although I do like these covers, I doubt they're accurate representations of the art once I flip the page.

Also, props to Marvel for still doing that second cover. Didn't knew the internet mob still allowed that.

Only mcu characters on the team.
Toss out the Sam Wilson movie version or give him a secondary mutation after the bird control thing from the Dell Rusk/Red Skull storyline.

I really don't like the actor and character in the mcu, not enough powers, not enough acting chops (Howard Mackie).

There are so many talented actors out there, but they chose one with very little charisma.
They should at least give him a super soldier serum shot or let him be a mutant.

@MarvelZombie616 - his name is Anthony Mackie you dolt and everything you just said can be proven wrong with 1 role- he was PoppaDock in 8 mile. That role was all talent and charisma... didn't he play tupac?! You think they just let some untalented, uncharismatic guy play pac??? You just sound like a hater.
