THE AVENGERS: Captain Marvel Leads The New Team On Variant Cover For Upcoming Comic Book Relaunch

Announced last month, the new era for Earth's Mightiest Heroes is very nearly upon us! Written by Jed MacKay and drawn by Marvel's Stormbreaker artist C.F. Villa, The Avengers #1 will arrive this May, ushering an age ripe with grand-scale adventure and cosmic mystery just in time for the team’s milestone 60th anniversary.

The new run will come complete with a fresh lineup consisting of some of the biggest icons from throughout the Avengers' storied history including Captain Marvel, Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Black Panther, Scarlet Witch, and Vision (so, a very MCU-friendly roster of superheroes).

Now, you can check out this powerful new team rocketing into action - and led by Carol Danvers - in a variant cover by artist Daniel Acuña. Acuña's piece is said to be the first of many variants by top industry talents that will grace the debut issue, and sounds like we can look forward to seeing more stunning covers for The Avengers #1 this entire week.

MacKay and Villa's The Avengers run will kick off with a saga that sees the team embrace a new divine purpose after they’re gifted with knowledge of The Tribulation Events, a series of grand-scale disasters that will spark upheaval throughout the known universe.

We got our first glimpse at MacKay's overarching plan in December's year-ending one-shot, Timeless, where readers followed Kang in his hunt for the unobtainable "Missing Moment." Now, a dangerous game is afoot and the prize is greater than anything imaginable.

Will the Avengers be able to triumph in the face of the Tribulation Events and learn the connection behind these earth-shattering threats and Kang’s quest? Or will they be reduced to mere pawns in an extraordinary scheme beyond their comprehension?

Check out the new cover below and stay tuned for more variant reveals this week. Oh, and if you're wondering when you can get your hands on a copy, The Avengers #1 arrives in comic book stores on May 17.

I like the lineup, though no Hulk family person of any kind is a little letdown. Always adds that unusual dynamic

Make Black Panther the leader ):
One of the few things I liked from Aaron’s run.

Lol yes. Let's put Vision and Scarlet Witch back on a team together so they can be in close proximity with eachother on a regular basis.

I can see nothing going wrong with this.

I wonder when we're getting word on the new avengers team for the mcu. I'm guessing it's close to this, just with Rhodes and shuri in their respective spots, and probably no Wanda.

Come to think of it, that's crazy how that's gonna work. This team has never come together, yet when they do it's against a threat even greater than thanos?

@Origame - Exactly just imagine if Ms.Marvel is on the team.

This is probably why they'll bring back the originals just to make sure people actually think they need to see it.

@Origame - I would guess the new MCU Avengers will be Falcon America, Ant-Man, Hulk, Captain Marvel, War Machine, Black Panther, Iron Heart, and Shang Chi. (Possibly Spectrum and Ms Marvel)

And I can honestly say I'm not overly excited for that.

@CorndogBurglar - What about Spider-Man,Doctor Strange and possibly Moon Knight and She-Hulk joining the team.

The last two I don't care if they joined, the new Black Widow might join.

@marvel72 - Oh I forgot Spider-Man. I would imagine he'll definitely be there. And Dr Strange will 100% be involved even if he doesn't actually officially join the team.

I feel like She-Hulk is a mixed bag. Too many people were not happy with her show, so it may be wise to keep her away, but its not out of the realm of possibility.

I hated the MCU version of Moon Knight, so I say keep him away. If they can make him more serious than I guess he could join a Midnight Sons team. But he really annoyed me.

@marvel72 - Moon Knight could have been so cool. Imagine if they had made him just a Normal street level hero. And they made it ambiguous as to whether Khonshu was really real or not.

So like, when his suit is wrapping itself all around him, the camera could show in the mirror that it's really just him putting his costume on, but in his mind he's picturing the costume wrapping itself all around him. Like, he puts on his glove and then it flashes over to him imagining the mummy wraps covering his hand. Then keep doing that.

And then we never see Khonshu. We hear his voice and Mark Spectre responding to him, but we don't know if just a voice in his head or not.

And for his powers, like the comics as the moon gets closer to a full moon he becomes slightly stronger and faster, but as the viewer we don't know if that's really happening or if it's him convincing himself he's getting stronger.

They could have made it a real mind [frick].

@CorndogBurglar - It sounds better than what they went with.

This is what you get when you go cheap and hire crappy writers and directors that nobody has heard off.

I can usually take or leave most Avengers titles, but with this being written by Jed Mackay, I'm gonna give it a go. His Moon Knight run has been amazing, his Strange series (with Clea) was great, I enjoyed his Kang stuff, and his time on Spider-Man with Beyond Reilly, and Death of Doctor Strange was pretty fun, too.

I have no idea if anything like this has ever happened, but I'd love an arc where Rocket joins the Avengers and over years eventually becomes team leader of Earth's Mightiest Heroes for a while.

I like it when comics do their own thing and don’t change to fit what is happening in movies or television shows. At least Steve, Tony and T’Challa are still alive in the comics.

Damn Marvel is full on determined to force Captain Marvel on the public. She’s been rebooted over 20 times and still isn’t popular.
But give them points for trying I guess.
