The Gorgeous Geeks Marvel Siege Review

The Gorgeous Geeks Marvel Siege Review

Siege was Marvel's big crossover event this year. It started out with some pretty shocking material but did it measure up?

The Civil War, Secret Invasion, and Dark Reign have all led to one crossover event that was surprisingly smaller than many of it's predecessors. So with only four books, does it deliver an epic conclusion that puts everything back in proper order? Well, yes and no.

House of M had a shitty end,
Decimation had a shitty end,
Secret Invasion was pointless,
World War Hulk was anti-climactic,
Dark Avengers was just DUMB...
did you guys REALLY expect Siege to be ANY different?
...and anybody psyched for Secret Avengers is gonna experience the SAME disappointment...
they need to oust Quesada and relegate his tit-baby, Bendis back to doing only Ultimate Spider-Man and Daredevil...
ever since Quesada became editor-in-chief, it's been "oh, you want to do that? it'll fcuk up all continuity and canon? sure, go ahead...by the way, make Wolverine stop smoking..."
and what is WITH Bendis anyway, it's like they gave him the keys to Disney World and told him he could change all the rides...
I read the stuff from the library to keep up, but I refuse to spend one more red nickel on this overpriced CRAP until they get somebody else helming the damn editor's chair...this shit has been going on since Secret War and is becoming downright STUPID...
and NOW! NOW! They're gonna fcuk up my BOY, Daredevil! Hellz no! They're already jacking with the Knight and totally destroyed the Avengers (I have every comic from 123 of the original up to right before Civil War)...when is this idiocy gonna end?
...and, scene...that's my rant...

I thought Siege was great. The fourth issue was good, but they never explained why the Void looked like a Spider. Civil War will always be my favorite Marvel event.

@Destroyer: Yeah whats up with that? Sentry/Void was literally the angel of death from the 10 plagues of Egypt? If that's really the case then what does that have to do with Bob being a meth addict? So drinking evil super-soldier serum will make the angel of death stronger? And then he just got killed by one swing of Thor's hammer after a hellacarrier crashed into him?

After seeing Ares death in Siege #2, I knew the best was over. Ares death was an AMAZING moment in comic book history imho.

@Gorgeous: Great review! Anil, Blackairs, SoratheKey, and some others have posted a few reviews before, but they eventually fell off. Thanks for brining back some comic discussion! Not sure if I want this in main though. I personally like the secret clubhouse style discussions we have back here in the reviews.

@Anil: Dude! Did you see what happened in Hulk and TIH? WTF! I think it's starting to get better. I agree with everything you said about Siege, although I wouldn't call it a failure. By the time the big event is halfway through, the readers have impossibly high expectations for the ending. I don't think it was possible to end Siege well after Ares shocking death. Maybe the point of all the unanswered questions surrounding Sentry is to give writers something to work with for him in the future. But yeah, definitely a let down.

@Anil: Dude! I am right there with you about Doomwar being awesome, but lacking. Personally I'm really not looking forward to Deadpool being the catalyst to turn the tables.

Loki is not dead by the way. I just read somewhere at CBR that there was supposedly some "fine print" in his contracts with Mephisto and Hella. Although, he did shed a tear when praying to his father for strength. That bastard! They do such a great job of writing him. He's just so slimy and gets under your skin.

Weakest part of Siege:
Mariah Hill rescuing Thor from Ozborn. Seriously?

I hated how the Superhuman Registration Act just gets thrown out like no problem. It just gave you that feeling like "wow so Civil War till now means absolutely nothing."
