The X-Men Universe: What a fan of 30 years would do to shake it up

After 30+ years of reading X-books, of late, I have been feeling ho-hum here we go again. So, I've decided, for the heck of it, to propose here what I'd do to shake things up in the X-U!

First thing I'd do is consider this: the X-men's PR is in the toilet, kind of, and, as the ones supposedly trying to attain peaceful human-mutant relations, seems like they should be more proactive for PR.

So, we send the original X-Men back to their time before their absence scrambles the time line, again. Then, we launch the new X-titles, letting the current ones fade away. Also, we change up the base locations(sooo sick of NY) and start date stamping to help fans follow timeline continuity, for example, Dec 6 to start that particular day, is all that's needed.

Here's the books & their teams:

Shadowforce-{they get in, get the target, get out, all unseen & undetected}
->Based-Washington DC
->Shadowcat(leader), Psylocke, Nightcrawler, Gambit, Dust, Quicksilver, & Domino

X-traction Point-{they go get new mutants before anyone else can}
->Based-Miami, FL
->Rogue(leader), Sage, Ariel, Caliban, Multiple Man, Anole, & Hope

X-Calibur-{the public face of good mutants in Eurasia, Africa, Australia}
->Based-Rome, Italy
->Captain Britain(leader), Meggan, Magik, Colossus, Chamber, Wolfsbane, Syrin, Indra, & Wisdom

911: X-scape-{a world wide public rescue force responding to disasters}
->Based-Dallas, TX
->Storm(leader), Iceman, Magma, Rictor, Polaris, Sunspot, Frenzy, Elixir, & Pixie

X-Force-{mutant wetworks, sanctioning all who need removed, permanently}
->Based-Los Angeles, CA
->Wolverine(leaeder), Blink, Emma Frost, Havok, Warpath, Armor, Mercury, Hellion, & Primal

X-Men-{the face of good mutants in the Americas}
->Based-Chicago, IL
->Cyclops(leader), Marvel Girl, Vanisher, Cannonball, Transonic, Rockslide, Trance, Berzerker, M, Surge, & Angel

University X-{the teachings, trials, & trainings of new mutants, development of new tech for the teams, & back up if the others need it}
->Based-Westchester, NY(just gotta be there)
->Beast(director), STAFF-Magneto, Moonstar, Dazzler, Forge, Husk, Toad, Karma, Box, Danger, Northstar, Aurora, Prodigy, Boomer, Skids, & Dr. Reyes

These would develop new character interactions, provide new settings for the characters to explore, and be strategically located to best deal with what they are assigned to deal with, geographically. Also, it would put distance between the teams, allowing new bonds to form and, perhaps, old wounds to heal. Plus, it puts a telepath & a teleporter on all but one team each. Very crucial.

Now, of course, there those who would still need their own solo titles, like Cable & Deadpool but, if they insist on Wolverine & Gambit solo titles, they really need to do the date marking so readers aren't going "waitaminute! how's he in this book, this book, this book, this book, this book, and this book this month!?!?!?"

Well, that's about it. Just a bit of fun from an X-fan of 30+ years cause it's been bugging me for the last 10! LOL

Dude, those are some great ideas. New team names are fantastic, as well as locations and rosters. Now what you need to do is come up with some great stories to put into each of these titles as a way of selling it further.

Also, it would be great, since PR is part of this equation and you spoke directly about human/mutant relations, you should have at least one team that has several non-mutants on it, or scatter some non-mutants throughout some of the teams, especially those teams that are supposedly the public face of mutants worldwide. And I'm not talking about Avengers, I mean any non-mutants. Punisher on X-Force, for example. Or Spidey, (when he finally stops being Ocyo-Spidey,) on the X-Men. I know, it kind've contradicts the whole premise of the X-Men being all mutants, but you did say that you wanted to shake things up, and what better way to do so than shaking up the status quo?

Think about it. I'd love to see what your thoughts are on this.

Again, great post. Marvel could use some progressive and creative thinkers like you on their payroll.

As an aside, I like the original 5 in the future. It's a lovely twist on things. Moreover, it won't really screw with the timeline if they're transported back at the exact same moment that they left and get mindwiped by The Professor (or Jean) upon return. Furthermore, even if they did muck with the timeline, we could get some PHOENOMENAL storytelling ala Age of Apocalypse about a new timeline where the X-Men went missing and weren't around to fight for peace between Homo Sapiens and Homo Superior. Just a thought...

Thanks.

The stories would be centered around the purpose for each team. 911 X-scape would deal with disasters, natural n man made. Ever wonder why we hardly ever see heroes deal with these things more in comix? This would be its own PR.

Honestly, if we could add Black Widow to X-Force, Hawkeye to Shadowforce, Mockingbird to X-traction Point, & Rescue to 911 X-scape, that would work nicely. X-calibur would need a Eurasian/Australia/Africa nonmutant hero to maintaint the concept. Not sure who at the moment though. Shang Chi maybe. Hank Pym at University X and Wasp with the X-men would be interesting as well.

If you keep the original 5 in the present, they need to start having reverberating effects, minor at first. Right now, they are missing, so something has to be happening as a result with time line implications. Once modern Beast starts to realize it, then he can go about returning them to the point they left. Seeing the effects could be fun.

Now, if the Marvel folks who troll this website would take this article to the powers that be and they use it, that would be awesome.

What would really be awesome would be if they'd actually give you some credit for coming up with a better idea in the first place.

As far as your non-mutant choices, most of them are Avengers. A real break from the monotony that has been comic book storytelling would be to use mostly, if not all, non-Avengers, or at least those that are not readily associated with the Avengers. For example, put the current Venom on Shadowforce. Makes perfect sense since they seem like a team that would be government sanctioned, and Flash is ex-military. Also, you could throw Elektra on X-Force.

I'm going to brainstorm this, and post some more ideas in a bit, if for no other reason than it's fun.

Shadowforce- Venom (Flash Thompson), Cloak and Dagger, She-Hulk (Jennifer Walters) as a government liason. (She would get promoted because of her legal skills and knowledge of the finer workings of the laws.)

X-Calibur- Black Panther, Shang-Chi (nice idea)

911:X-scape- The Fantastic Four (As honorary members, but stationed out of New York). How's THAT for PR? Red Hulk. (For any nuclear disasters.)

X-Force- Blade, Morbius, (but not both,) Elektra, Punisher.

I'm sure that there are more, but it's late, and my head isn't working properly after working a 10 hour shift.

Nice. I was thinking more along the lines of non-powereed heroes. Putting non-mutant powered with mutant powered could blur the lines in the PR. Having normal human super heroes would show that mutants n non can work together for the greater good.

Elektra would be a nice choice for X-force but Punisher would be a bit interesting but could be a PR nightmare if he gets a bit carried away. Sanctioning is their forte so he could work but Elektra would be a better choice.

Good ideas. Not worried about credit just want good stories again. Gotta salvage my main man Cyclops, too.
