Tarantino vs Lee: The Worse Actor

Tarantino vs Lee: The Worse Actor

Both have a habit of starring in films that they have something to do with. The question is, which of these two men is the worse actor?

Okay, so both of these men put themselves into movies that they have a hand in creating.  Stan "The Man" Lee has had a cameo in all of the Marvel films throughout each studio for some time.  Quentin Tarantino has a habit of putting himself into each of his films as well.  Both are not really good actors.  So I am asking, who is worse?  I respect both of these men a lot, and I know you can't judge acting from a few minutes of screen time.  But whenever these men appear on screen, who really does take you out of the movie more?  Who makes you think "wow, that cameo just took me out of the world this movie created".  And I know that other directors and people make cameos in their films, such as M. Night. Shamalan.  But the thing is, the product of Tarantino and Lee's work is actually (for the most part) good.  But acting wise they suck.  So, let's get started.

First, let's look at their best cameos.  Most people will say when asked that the best Stan Lee Cameo is in The Amazing Spider-Man, where he plays a librarian in the middle of a Spider-Man/Lizard fight.  The scene doesn't require much acting from Lee, but is still very funny, and very memorable.  Now, as for Tarantino's best cameo, I personally think that his best part was in Pulp Fiction.  The coffee monolougue was one of the most memorable scenes in the film.  Both are generally played for laughs.  But I think that if I had to choose, Tarantino had the harder job.  He actually contributed to the story, and had lines.  Frankly, anyone could have been in Lee's role.  It was funny, but Tarantino was better.

Worst cameos.  This is for the most shoehorned, worst acting in the films they appear in.  For Stan Lee, this cameo for me personally, is him in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.  He literally appears on screen, shouts "I AM STAN LEE!" and is forced off the screen.  This was honestly something that took me out of the movie's world, where I could not suspend my disbelief anymore.  For Quentin Tarantino, his worst cameo role was him in Django Unchained.  He was there as a complete Deus Ex Machina, a way for Django (Jamie Foxx) to escape.  What also makes this role bad is the hammy accent Tarantino does.  If you thought that Paul Giamatti's accent was terrible in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, this one is terrible.  If I had to choose the worst however, I'd still take Tarantino's cameo over Lee's.  The reason?  Tarantino was trying to become a new character.  He failed miserably, but I wasn't like "okay, movie is over".  It also helps that Django Unchained is a much better film than Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

So, other than that, what do they do?  Stan Lee's cameo's are funner, especially for comic book fan's.  It's a staple of a Marvel Film nowadays.  The thing is, that's become a cliche.  Something to be made fun of now.  With Tarantino, he makes himself a character, that affects the story for better or worse.  I'm never trully taken out of the film when Tarantino appears on screen.  He's a bad actor, but not the worse.  Lee is in there for two things: the fans and his ego.  That's why I have to say, Stan Lee is the worse actor.

Well, thanks for reading!  Agree, disagree, thoughts?  Comment below!  And if you enjoyed what you've read, show some love and hit the red thumb!  Peace out.

Let's get one thing straight, Tarantino is a straight up film geek. He has watches so many films, studied so many films, and used so many films as influence for his films. He is probably the biggest film geek in terms of directors. He always does films where it takes the genre of the film and flips it. A western about a black bounty hunter in the south. A WWII film about Nazi killing Jews. So on and so forth. I love Tarantino. He's probably my favorite director with Del Toro.

Is he the world's greatest actor? No but he isn't all that bad. Pulp Fiction comes to mind where he held his own with Sam Jackson, John Travolta, and Harvey Keitel.

At the end of the day though, you are comparing Tarantino's acting ability TO A [frick]ING COMIC BOOK WRITER!!!!!!!!

I like you but this article feels like we didn't need it you know?

@LEVITIKUZ

Yeah, I like his films a lot. I just find him to be a hilariously bad actor. And I know this wasn't needed, I just wanted to write something for the hell of it, this popped up in my head, and i said, yup, sounds intersting

Lol oh dannramm, your articles are always interesting.

Tarantino actually thinks his acting is good. He is really trying to portray the characters.

Stan Lee knows he can't act, and is not trying to act. He knows, and the audience knows, he is playing Stan Lee not an actual character that has heavy weight to the story.

I love all of Stan's cameos but Tarantino's scene in Django is just too damn great.

Also I think Tarantino is a decent actor, just as good or better than Channing Tatum.

These two are right, and I'd like to add something: you said that Tarantino's cameo in Django wasn't good because of what the character did? That has nothing to do with his acting. He just played the part he wrote for it. And personally, I don't think portraying a "bad accent" equates to being a bad actor. It was a fun movie where he was doing a fun part. I can think of so many actors trying to do southern accents that aren't great, but I wouldn't say they are bad actors because of it.

I genuinely think Shyamalan vs Stan Lee would have made for a much more interesting editorial.

Tarantino's Aussie accent made me laugh out loud when I first saw Django.

I keep imagining it & giggling as I write this.
