Deadline is reporting that Michael Gandolfini (The Many Saints of NewarkCherry) has joined the cast of Marvel Studios' upcoming Disney+ series, Daredevil: Born Again

The trade adds that he is potentially playing an original character named Liam, who is simply described as an ambitious guy from Staten Island. Whether he has a comic book counterpart remains to be seen.

Gandolfini is the first major addition to the cast, which is headlined by Charlie Cox (DaredevilSpider-Man: No Way Home) as the titular Man Without Fear and Vincent D'Onofrio (DaredevilHawkeye) as Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. the Kingpin.

The up-and-coming actor is best known for playing the young Tony Soprano in The Many Saints of Newark, taking over the iconic role from his late father, James Gandolfini. His recent credits also include Paramount+'s The Offer, Apple TV+'s Cherry, HBO's The Deuce, and Warner Bros.' Ocean's Eight

The series will be part of Phase 5 in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, serving as a standalone sequel to the Daredevil Netflix series, which ran for three seasons, and will pick up Murdock's story sometime after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Hawkeye, and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. It will be a direct sequel to Echo.

Daredevil: Born Again will reportedly consist of eighteen episodes and will launch in 2024, exclusively on Disney+.

Kingpin's son maybe? Although if they were keeping some of the Netflix's show continuity, IDK how that'd work

@Franshu - Fisk had an illegitimate kid recently in the comics that he just discovered

So all I can say is that if they are pulling in actors from “The Sopranos” franchise into “DD:BA” we should be in for something special here.

It’s almost like Kevin said: “Hey, a crazy idea, but hear me out: what if we crossed the Netflix DD show with “The Sopranos”, but the Kingpin is Tony Soprano”? And everyone went “OMG I would watch the hell out of a 6 episode season of that”. And then Kevin said “You know what? F**k 6 episodes! Let’s make it 12! You know what?… F**k or all, let’s go with 18. I’ve got a really good feeling about this!!!”

Richard Fisk in disguise is an easy guess but Fisk’s other son Byron would be interesting too. Make more sense than Richard.

Byron found out he was Kingpin’s illegitimate son years later. That would make sense as “Liam” wouldn’t be Vanessa’s son.

He and three of his buddies are going to be pranking each other and filming everyone's reactions. And if they refuse, they lose.

I imagined Matt Smith as The Owl in my initial fancastings but he could totally do it.

A young up and coming crime boss to rival the older Fisk and try to come for his throne

Or alternatively he could be The Rose?

Let me guess; he's playing some type if Mob gangster dude?

Kidding aside, I hope his acting career does well.

If he's playing Richard then that's pretty much confirmation they're not keeping the previous continuity intact (unless he's adopted or from a former fling.)

If he's playing an original character with the previous continuity remaining the same then he MIGHT be Owlsley's son. After all, they did say they wanted to have the Owl be the villain of Season 4.
