DYNAMIC DUO Puppetry Animation Shown At CinemaCon 2025, Debuts The DCU's Batmobile

The first animated movie to take place in the DCU will feature Dick Grayson and Jason Todd and footage of it has debuted at CinemaCon.

Today, Warner Bros took the stage at CinemaCon 2025 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The company came with tons of announcements. First looks at The Bride!, a fresh take on The Bride of Frankenstein that stars Jessie, Buckley, Christian Bale, and Penelope Cruz, and will also be a musical, Final Destination: Bloodlines, Mortal Kombat II, The Conjuring: Last Rites, and F1, Brad Pitt’s driving heavy drama, were all shown.

Finally, DC Studios took the stage.

First up was Dynamic Duo, an animated movie that features Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, the first two Robins, as dual protagonists. Footage from the movie was shown that apparently included some incredible footage. From around the internet and X, the footage apparently showed the batmobile for the first time in the DCU. It crashes through a pillar in some sort of chase or action scene, but we don’t yet know if this batmobile will be at all similar to that in The Brave and the Bold as both releases are pretty far out.

The cinematography of the footage shown has also been praised. The phrase “puppetry animation” is being thrown around, revealing a very unique style for Dynamic Duo. Puppetry animation is a style of stop motion animation which is an animating style that requires animators to move a physical puppet for each individual frame. The movie is being produced by Swaybox Studios, a studio known for a mix of stop motion puppet animation and CGI. Unfortunately, there are very few other details available about the film.

Dynamic Duo was announced back in October of 2024. Currently, neither of the two Robins have been cast, as there are no castings for the movie whatsoever. Whether or not Batman will be in the film is also a big question as the only two confirmed characters are Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. However, it’d be hard to imagine a movie about multiple Robins that doesn’t feature a Batman.

Dick Grayson and Jason Todd were Batman’s first Robins, but their backstories are very different. Dick Grayson is a gymnast who was taken in by Bruce Wayne after his parents were murdered and Jason Todd is an orphan who was caught trying to steal the tires off the Batmobile. Dick Grayson eventually becomes Nightwing, a more laid back, acrobatic hero, while Jason Todd eventually becomes Red Hood, a very intense, brutal hero who isn’t afraid to kill as his weapon of choice is two gigantic pistols.

Dynamic Duo is set to release all the way out in 2028.

What are your thoughts on Dynamic Duo? Let us know in the comments!

@Pictilli -

I sense - -

It has a lot of black paint - -

And tinted windows - -

And is a Tesla Cybertruck - -

The greatest threat to it will not be Riddler, Penguin, or Joker, but ignorant marauding brownshirt thugs.

They can't even get Superman off the ground, they dropped the clips and then they left. No other announcements.

I imagine they are waiting to see how Superman does, but yikes. They really have no faith to announce anything. I suppose it makes sense given the leaks confirmed as true.

@Scarilian - In what way does it make sense to announce anything when they gotta see how Superman performs first? Announcing things at this stage would be repeating the same exact mistakes the last go around.
If anything, making the announcements early on like Brave and The Bold never should have happened. It sets expectations that may be unrealistical and can radically change.

Speaking for myself, but I’d imagine others will feel the same, I couldn’t care less about anything else at the moment. Superman has to work first.

"In what way does it make sense to announce anything when they gotta see how Superman performs first?"

It would give the illusion that they have plans beyond Superman, when they are actually ready to just kick him to the curb the second Superman flops/bombs.

The majority of remarks on threads relaying the announcements were all waiting for The Batman II.

"I couldn’t care less about anything else at the moment. Superman has to work first."

Oh, it's dead on arrival with the leak confirmed. Yikes. What in the absolute frick was Gunn thinking.

@Scarilian - "It would give the illusion that they have plans beyond Superman"

They already announced 9 other projects alongside Superman, so we knew they had plans. In fact, they did an update earlier this year about which projects were going ahead, which ones are having difficulties, and even made some new announcements. They are being extremely transparent with us about their plans.

If they really had doubts about Superman, they would have had LESS projects this year, not more.

Originally Gunn's universe was supposed to start with a Waller series which hasn't transpired.

They have been transparent in the sense they announced none of these projects have been able to get off the ground, but that doesn't instill confidence when the projects they have announced all went belly up.

Superman footage sounds awesome:

He gets a new costume at the end of the movie supposedly... (and yes it still has the red trunks and yellow belt, thankfully!)

Nah, it confirmed the leaks - meaning it's going to be a disaster. I think Gunn's DCEU plans end with this when it flops.

It sounds like a parody.

Lex Luthor is an incel who kicks dogs and traps his ex-girlfriends in a pocket universe while desperately trying to win favor with a Russia stand-in and his big plan is to create a Kaiju to injure Superman to get his blood to access the Fortress to kidnap Krypto to make Superman mad so his clone of Superman can frame/arrest him so that he can trap him in the Pocket Dimension and then humiliate him further by sending his clone to escalate a war.

His plan is thwarted because Jimmy Olsen cucks him and steals his current girlfriend who sends him lewd photos that reveal his plan in the background.

It's a worse Lex Luthor than in Batman V Superman.

Pictilli - 4/2/2025, 2:26 PM
@Scarilian - how are you getting that he is an incel out of anything?

This Lex is great.

Nothing will be worse than Eisenberg.

Is it weird to start off the DCU with Dick Grayson and Jason Todd both already being here? I cant decide.

I haven't heard anything about this movie but I can only assume they are going to be Nightwing and Red Hood. Which would mean Damian will be the Robin in Brave and the Bold.

Has this already been confirmed? I cant keep this stuff straight anymore.

Neither can they. This is supposed to be DCU. But as McMurdo said Gunn expressed doubts about whether or not it would end up being DCU when it finally comes out.

I was a little skeptical about the puppetry - but I saw a sizzle reel on their website (which is a handful of years old now) and I was blown away with how it looks and can't wait to see how it translates.

I’m a big fan of not announcing some huge slate of projects, 50% of which never get made. As a primarily DC reader for the last 39 years I’d prefer they take their time, get it right and just announce right before pre-pro so that we as an audience can get some truly great DC films
