Earlier this year, John Krasinski joined the cast of DC League of Super-Pets in a mystery role. Now, the actor has confirmed on Twitter that he's playing the Man of Steel himself, Superman.

In 2022, the pets of DC's greatest superheroes will take the spotlight in DC League of Super-Pets. Directed by Jared Stern and Sam Levine, the movie will focus on Ace the Bat-Hound (Kevin Hart), Krypto the Super-Dog (Dwayne Johnson), Chip the Squirrel (Diego Luna), Merton the Turtle (Natasha Lyonne) and PB the Pig (Vanessa Bayer), as they band together to save the day.

League of Super-Pets boasts an impressive cast that also includes Kate McKinnon, Keanu Reeves and John Krasinski. Much like his co-stars, Krasinski's role had been kept a mystery, but we finally have confirmation of whom the former The Office star will be lending his voice to: The Man of Steel himself, Superman.

Krasinski took to Twitter to confirm his role in League of Super-Pets with a still from the movie, featuring Superman flying alongside Krypto:

It's worth noting that Superman's costume is heavily inspired by the suit he sported in the 1940s' Superman cartoons.

Funnily enough, Krasinski briefly discussed Superman during a 2018 interview with The Independent for his Prime Video series, Jack Ryan. Talking about what appealed to him about Ryan, the actor stated that, as a child, he saw it possible for him to play a character like the CIA analyst, as opposed to a character like the Man of Steel:

"I think that there's an everyman quality to Jack that certainly my character in The Office had, and I think that's what I connected to [...] There was a nerdy part of me as a kid that went, 'Oh, I could be Jack Ryan' whereas I couldn't be Superman. There is such an appeal to playing a guy who is a real person, that you might see in a bar – he's an actual superhero that could exist."

The actor has been a fan-favorite to portray Reed Richards in Marvel Studios' Fantastic Four reboot. While that's always been a pipe dream, it's great to see him actually taking on a comic-book role, even if it's not for a live-action project.

DC League of Super-Pets won't be the first time that Krasinski has worked in animation. The A Quiet Place star has lent his voice to films like Shrek the Third, Monsters vs. Aliens, Monsters University and Hayao Miyazaki's The Wind Rises

DC League of Super-Pets will fly into theaters on May 20, 2022.

Kevin Hart as Ace is just such a poor choice

They got me with the headline. "John Krasinski Confirms..."

and using the picture that everyone uses for the Mr. Fantastic Fanart certainly didn't help.

@NicolausCopernicus - To this day I still think about that cancelled Superman game that was supposed to come out on the PS3, it not only looked like the only game to potray Superman's powers correctly, it was also a game that set on celebrating what made Superman actually great as well.

I always thought he'd already played Superman in a DCAU movie. Huh. Guess I was wrong. Meanwhile, where's Wonder Woman's sidekick Jumpa?

I'd like to see Krasinski as a live action:

Superman
Mr. Fantastic (alongside his bride as Sue Storm)
Wally West
