BOX OFFICE: DEADPOOL Stays At #1 For Yet Another Weekend As It Closes In On $300 Million Domestically

We found out earlier this week that Deadpool looked likely to win the weekend in North America, and it's now been confirmed after yet another strong Friday. Current estimates (via Variety) have the movie pegged at making a total of $31 million, a number which is set to take its domestic gross to around the $280 million mark. That means it should reach $300 million by around Wednesday, and an update on its current international cume - which must have surpassed $600 million by now - should be with us in the next day or two.

Considering the fact that Deadpool cost $58 million to make, the R-Rated release may just go down as 2016's most profitable movie even if it isn't the highest grossing.

As for new opener Gods of Egypt, that took only $4.7 million on Friday, and with an estimated opening weekend of $14 million, it's pretty much a guaranteed flop (the CGI heavy movie cost over $140 million to make). However, Lionsgate aren't too worried; according to the site, "the company steeled itself for potential losses through foreign pre-sales and an Australian production incentive, making the studio’s exposure on the budget around $10 million." What are you watching this weekend?
