Zazie Beetz could well have wound up playing a very different mutant character in Fox's X-Men movie universe before landing the role of Domino in Deadpool 2.
While speaking at a spotlight panel at ACE Comic-Con in Chicago this weekend, the Atlanta star was asked of there were any other Marvel characters she’d like to play, and she responded by revealing that she had auditioned to play the younger version of Storm in X-Men: Apocalypse before the role ultimately went to Alexandra Shipp.
“When I was a kid, I remember, in terms of characters, people would always be like, ‘You should be Storm.’ I auditioned for young Storm, actually, and I didn’t get it,” explained Beetz. “Growing up I always had an association with her. I mean, obviously, because being a young black woman, that was the one I associated with. But I think that would have been a little fantasy of mine to do that and sort of a nostalgic thing for me to try. So yeah, I’d say Storm.”
Shipp actually appeared (very) briefly as Ororo Monroe in the Deadpool sequel, but never shared the screen with Beetz. Perhaps the pair will get the chance to work together as Storm and Domino at some point before the inevitable Marvel Studios takeover.
