With Deadpool & Wolverine set to be released in theaters this July, Marvel Comics is getting in on the fun with special variant covers featuring the characters as they'll appear in the MCU.
A special team-up story (set in the comic book Marvel Universe) titled Weapon X-Traction will run as backup tales in eight Marvel titles this summer, with each of those issues boasting movie-themed covers. The story comes our way from writer Ryan North (Fantastic Four) and atrist Javier Garrón (Avengers).
It all kicks off with July's Incredible Hulk #14 and continues through August; while that opening chapter will have a teaser variant cover that uses Garrón’s promotional art for the story, the rest boast pieces made in honour of the upcoming film. They're illustrated by some of the industry’s hottest artists including Steve McNiven, Ryan Stegman, Jorge Molina, Cafu, Declan Shalvey and David Nakayama.
Longtime comic readers know all too well that bringing Deadpool and Wolverine together makes for some of the wildest misadventures ever told in the Marvel Universe. Weapon X-Traction will be no exception with a weary Wolverine and a clingy Deadpool on an epic journey across the Multiverse, battling zombies and gun-wielding librarians and, of course, one another!
On penning this saga, North said, "Javier is an insanely talented artist, and he is absolutely nailing the fine balance between comedy, violence, and big important feelings that characterize Deadpool. Taking him and Wolverine across the multiverse as they try to save everything - and not murder each other at the same time - has been a delight."
Check out all of the officially released Deadpool & Wolverine variant covers (if a few of them are familiar, it's because a handful were leaked in low-res earlier this year) below and stay tuned for updates.
Shawn Levy directs Deadpool & Wolverine, which stars Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, and Matthew Macfadyen. The movie is written by Ryan Reynolds & Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick & Zeb Wells & Shawn Levy.
The trades have confirmed that Jennifer Garner will reprise her role as Elektra, with Wesley Snipes, James Marsden, Famke Janssen, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Dafne Keen, Channing Tatum, Blake Lively and, as we mentioned above, even singer Taylor Swift among those rumoured to make an appearance.
Kevin Feige, Reynolds, Levy and Lauren Shuler Donner produce with Louis D’Esposito, Wendy Jacobson, Mary McLaglen, Josh McLaglen, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, George Dewey, Simon Kinberg and Jonathon Komack Martin serving as executive producers.
