DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE Rumor Reveals How The Movie References The Events Of LOGAN - SPOILERS

A new rumour has shed some light on how Wolverine & Logan will reference the events of 2017's Logan, but does this confirm this Variant isn't the same one from the original X-Men franchise's timeline?

In 2017's Logan, Wolverine's healing factor is failing and he ultimately falls in battle while fighting his far more powerful clone, X-24. Laura, a.k.a. X-23, puts an Adamantium bullet in the evil Wolverine's head, but it's too late for her "father" by that point.

Logan dies peacefully in her arms after imploring her not to become the weapon she was made to be, and he's buried in a grave marked by an "X."

When the news broke that Hugh Jackman would return as Wolverine in Deadpool 3, fans expressed concern that the events of Logan would be undone.

We're not sure why it really mattered when 20th Century Fox's X-Men franchise rarely paid any mind to continuity, but the potential backlash prompted Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy to assure fans they were leaving Logan well alone. Then, in yesterday's new trailer, we seemingly got confirmation that Deadpool & Wolverine's Logan is indeed a completely different Variant.

It's possible he was plucked from the original franchise's timeline before the events of Logan take place, of course, but we don't think so.

Scooper @CanWeGetToast is today claiming that Deadpool & Wolverine will reference the events of Logan when the clawed mutant seen in the trailers is told how his counterpart tragically died while trying to save X-23.

It could be that he's learning of his future self's fate, of course, but we'd bet on the title characters ending up in the timeline where Laura has grown up to become the new Wolverine (Dafne Keen is now 19) and tells her "father" what he did for her in that reality.

If we're right, then it's probably who Logan is talking to in this scene...

Shawn Levy directs Deadpool & Wolverine, which stars Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, and Matthew Macfadyen. The movie is written by Ryan Reynolds & Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick & Zeb Wells & Shawn Levy.

The trades have confirmed that Jennifer Garner will reprise her role as Elektra, with Wesley Snipes, James Marsden, Famke Janssen, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Dafne Keen, Channing Tatum, Blake Lively and, as we mentioned above, even singer Taylor Swift among those rumoured to make an appearance.

Kevin Feige, Reynolds, Levy and Lauren Shuler Donner produce with Louis D’Esposito, Wendy Jacobson, Mary McLaglen, Josh McLaglen, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, George Dewey, Simon Kinberg and Jonathon Komack Martin serving as executive producers.

Deadpool & Wolverine arrives in theaters on July 26.

@YouFlopped - Nah, the suits look fine. I'm just wondering if there's a story behind the lack of a mask for Wolverine. We got one little tease in The Wolverine.

But that was in a case. I want it on his face.

Also, that movie was awesome. Wonder why people don't discuss it more.

TheVandalore - 4/23/2024, 10:55 AM
@DarthOmega - because it has some cheesy plot points, some wonky CGI and it just feels kinda awkward as an X MEN movie to most people, while still being a solid movie with great action and good acting. It's definitely not a bad film, just wasn't the flavor most people seemed to gravitate towards. I like it, but also there really isn't much else to talk about with that one. It came and went. It's okay but not like an S Tier masterpiece worthy of bringing up too often.

What would you like to discuss about it?
DarthOmega
DarthOmega - 4/23/2024, 11:12 AM
@TheVandalore - Nothing in particular. I just thought the film was awesome. I didn't realize people saw it as an awkward X-Men film. The CG didn't look any wonkier than any other CG in that period.. Or even today for that matter with movies like Ant-Man Quantumania or the Flash. It's one of those films I thoroughly enjoyed but people seem to have forgotten. Like Wanted.

@ObserverIO - I kinda struggle rewatching NWH but that’s more due to how the scenes are structured once the nostalgia train goes full steam. Too much wait for applause moments

Endgame it flows slightly more naturally

Hold up! Wesley Snipes is rumored to make a cameo? The modern comic book movie age arguably started with him in Blade. It'll be nice to see some love for the man.

If the rumors are true.

@DarthOmega - I read this too. I hope it’s true and not just a fabricated rumour. Snipes & Reynolds have history together it will be interesting to see them onscreen together for the first time in twenty years!!
Blade set the foundation for what the marvel machine is today. Without it, Deadpool, MCU, X-men might not be the box office successes that they are today.
The Blade films haves aged like fine wine too.

@TheMetaMan - I haven't seen the third Blade film since it came out in theaters. So I will take your word for it as far as it aging well. But the first two still hold up. I freaking love those films. A perfect one two punch. I especially love the interactions between Wesley and Ron Pearlman on Blade two. Also some great action scenes.

@SuperJefe - It's a shame he reportedly is hard to work with on set. Because he was my favorite actor growing up. I would watch anything he was in. Unlike Van Damme, Segal etc. He was one action star who not only knew martial arts but was a great dramatic actor as well. Nino Brown alone should have gotten him an Oscar nomination. Dude was sublime in New Jack City
SuperJefe
SuperJefe - 4/23/2024, 10:59 AM
@DarthOmega - You’re speaking the truth. I watched all his flicks too. He always seemed to be putting in serious work…

And let’s not forget Major League and White Men Can’t Jump … he was a good comedic actor too.

But at the height is his Snipes-dom he could’ve been difficult, but who knows, most of Hollywood is fulla weirdos anyways.

@SuperJefe - Man I would be here all day discussing my favorite Snipes films. He could do it all. One of my all time favorite villains was Simon Phoenix.

TheMetaMan
TheMetaMan - 4/23/2024, 2:17 PM
@DarthOmega - Yeah man the first two are the epitome of action-horror-cinema. I love the bit where Blade meets the group and Reinheart asks him if he can blush LMFAO! Blade Trinity is by far the worst one in the trilogy there’s very little redeeming qualities. It’s a guilty pleasure for sure, if you like comedy and Ryan Reynolds then you’ll eat it up. The soundtrack and a couple of moments here and there are the only highlights. It’s still watchable, has good replay value. I’d rather watch Trinity then something like She-Hulk, the flash, black Adam, Shazam 2, Captain marvel, superman returns, X-men origins wolverine and the fantastic four movies. Sometimes a movie isn’t that bad, you realise how redeemable it is compared to other flicks that you’ll never watch again.
SuperJefe
SuperJefe - 4/23/2024, 2:19 PM
@DarthOmega - Haha true. That movie still holds up - wife and I just watched it again recently. They could do a sequel - his dead body was frozen in the end - easy to clone in the future!
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 4/23/2024, 10:41 AM
If true then I like it…

I could see us going to that reality and have X23 there that tells this Logan who is down about not having saved his world that he is a hero and leads to us seeing him getting his redemption.

This is how the Multiverse should be used in that it should have characters reflect on themselves and then learn from the possible mistakes or choices they could have made akin to DS 2 & Loki and not just fan service due nostalgia’s sake (as fun as that can be).

It should matter on a character level.

Wolverine didn't kill the X-Men in Logan. It was Professor X with a telepathic seizure. He even caught one in the movie and almost killed the people of Las Vegas. This wolverine is most likely from a branched timeline and will learn about what many of his variants have done in their timelines/realities. This will push him to become a hero again.

@SonOfAGif - What if this Logan didnt kill Jean at the end of X3 and so she killed everyone on the island that night and now Logan feels the guilt cause he didnt kill her
SonOfAGif
SonOfAGif - 4/23/2024, 11:18 AM
@HammerLegFoot - He would have died as well had he not killed Jean. The Phoenix wanted everyone dead. I still want to hold out hope that he's from Universe 838, And he's being blamed for not helping against Thanos causing many heroes to die and then not helping against The Scarlet Witch causing the Illuminati to die.

The FoX-Men movies have such wildly inconsistent continuity that this Logan could be from a variety of different universe with the Fox-men multiverse. The original 3 may be one reality. The rest are branches from that reality. Even the Deadpool movies don’t really line up with any of the X-men movies. So those are branch realities also. The Wolverine from the new Deadpool movie could very well be the Wolverine from his universe. I can’t wait for the joke in the new movie where someone tries to explain this and their head explodes!
