X-MEN Star Sir Patrick Stewart Says He's Been Told "To Standby" For DEADPOOL 3

Just as he once revealed that he'd met with Kevin Feige to discuss playing Professor X in the MCU, Sir Patrick Stewart has dropped another bombshell, this time about Deadpool 3. Read on for details...

While the big trailer reveal that Sir Patrick Stewart's Professor X would appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness should have come as a surprise, it didn't. Yes, we'd seen some leaked pre-viz images, but the actor confirmed way back in 2021 that he'd met with Kevin Feige, making it obvious he was being lined up for a future MCU project.

Now, he's at it again, strongly hinting that we can expect him to return as Charles Xavier in Deadpool 3

Talking to ComicBook.com, Stewart was asked if there's a chance he'll show up as the mutant hero in the Merc with the Mouth's team-up with Wolverine and responded, "I've been told to standby. I know nothing more than that, honest."

Why tell him to "standby" if he's not needed?

There have already been rumblings about the threequel featuring major cameos, though this is an interesting decision when James McAvoy actually briefly showed up in Deadpool 2 as the leader of the X-Men. The franchise has always had to play fast and loose with continuity thanks to Fox, though, so we won't lose too much sleep over that.

With rumours swirling that the next Deadpool movie sets the stage for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, we can't help but wonder whether Marvel Studios will perhaps use this as a way of elaborating on Professor X killing the X-Men prior to the events of Logan. Revealing Kang was somehow behind that could be divisive, but would nicely tie these worlds together.

With the Fantastic Four cast from the mid-2000s expected to show up and now Stewart, it feels like Deadpool 3 will definitely serve as a grand farewell for Fox's X-Men Universe. Many fans will surely welcome that despite the franchise's decline in quality in later years, and it should help set the stage for Deadpool and a new take on the X-Men being welcomed into the MCU.

Deadpool 3 is set to be released in theaters on November 8,  2024.

I really don't wanna see him do it again. I don't wanna see Hugh back either. Logan was just such a perfect sendoff.

I wanna see new shit.

@RandyOrtonLF - Technically it's before his big sendoff.

But here's The Rhino taking a shit.

Personally i would love this as a final good bye to him as Prof X and a way to pass the mantle

We're gonna get the 97 suits! Please tell me this is happening

@bobevanz - I just want the MCU X-Men to be the 90's team. Marvel has to know that was the most successful and iconic team right? One can argue Claremont's New X-Men is the more iconic team, but lets be honest. The 90's X-Men were the same team, minus Nightcrawler, plus the rest of the origonal 5, Bishop and ninja Psylocke.

It really blows my mind that even the comics seem to refuse to take them back to their roots. It's long past time for it.

@CorndogBurglar - Personally I'd want a mix of the Claremont, Giant Size, and 90s team. Cyclops, Kitty Pryde, Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Wolverine, Sunfire, and Polaris.

Have Jean already been taken over by the Phoenix and die just to get that story out of the way and to have a bigger narrative for Scott trying to get over Jean's death.

CorndogBurglar - 2/10/2023, 10:50 AM
@FilmGuy7878 - You know, years ago I had the idea of the MCU X-Men team leaving Jean out completely, and just saying the X-Men have been a team for many years before we see them. And part of that would mean that they already went through the Dark Phoenix thing off screen before we even knew them. Kind of like the X-Men anime if you've ever watched that. Then using Emma as the team's telepath. Because you can't have an X-Men without a telepath.

@CorndogBurglar - The X-Men anime is actually where I got that idea from. And having Emma in a starring role would be sweet.

@FilmGuy7878 - I loved that anime. It's so good. I just wish they wore their classic costumes like we get glimpses of.

@CorndogBurglar - That would be interesting. I wouldn't go the anime route, but starting with Jean already "dead" and maybe introducing the Goblin Queen in the 2nd or 3rd film, along with Sinister would be fun. He's having a field day in the comics right now, along with Ororo.

This movie is gonna be way too overloaded with cameos...I fear Deadpool 3 might not have enough Deadpool.

@grif - I expected Patrick to hand over the baton to a new Picard. The late Gaspard Ulliel would have been perfect for the role.

I still think the cameos in Deadpool 2 made no sense at all and should be considered more of a cutaway gag than a legit scene. Why would they be the current versions when that movie was set in the late 2010s, when the movies featuring the original cast were set in the mid 2000s?
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 2/10/2023, 9:12 AM
@AC1 - Deadpool supposedly takes place in a different timeline. And Deadpool 3 will be multiverse hopping.

Professor X and Halle Berry as Storm...And the white suit.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 2/10/2023, 9:16 AM
@Repian - So here's a question for you. What color was Storm's costume really? When you look back, it can be either white, black, or chrome. Even the picture you posted can be taken as either shiny white, or chrome.

But other artists at the time colored it way more black than white. Yet, the animated series was 100% white.

Personally, I always considered it white. But when you look back through different medianand different artists it gets hard to tell what the real color of her costume was meant to be. Even Jim Lee had moments where it looked more black than white, and vice and versa.

Stewart has been a great actor but I think its time that he hangs it up and retires. I would love to see someone new come into the role and make it theirs. I assume the studio wants to get him in for as many movies before he inevitably passes.

Yup. No legitimate creative reason for any of them to show up on film ever again. It's a debasement of the whole X-Men cannon.
