Deadpool 2 was a box office hit and a re-released PG-13 version proved that the Merc with the Mouth could work outside an R-Rating. Despite that, we've not really heard anything about what comes next for the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and neither has director David Leitch!
During a recent interview at the premiere of
Hobbs & Shaw, the filmmaker was asked for an update on
Deadpool 3 (a movie he's never actually been officially attached to) and admitted that while he would like to make it, Disney hasn't been in touch about Wade Wilson's big screen future.
"In everybody's world, everybody wants to make it," he says.
"So, if I was ever approached to make Deadpool 3, my answer would be, 'Hell yes,' but I think there's a lot of things going on in the shake up with Fox and Disney and where that whole Marvel world after Endgame is gonna be. When the dust settles, let's hope that Deadpoool lives. That's kind of ironic, right?"
It's hard to imagine we won't see more of Deadpool on the big screen, but a rebooted version of the character (presumably with Ryan Reynolds still in the title role) seems far more likely than a
Deadpool 3 at this point. It's also possible that Marvel Studios will consider kicking things off with
X-Force.
