Disney's ALADDIN TV Spot Puts Princess Jasmine's Best Friend Dalia In The Spotlight

Another day, another trailer for Disney's Aladdin. The House of Mouse has been ramping up marketing for Guy Ritchie's live-action adaptation of the beloved 1992 animated classic, pumping out new TV spots almost daily.

While many of them used recycled footage, this new one offers a few new snippets as it puts the spotlight on Dalia. Played by Nasim Pedrad, Dalia, a new character in this version of the story, is Princess Jasmine's best friend and trusted confidant. She's likely just a supporting character, but it'll be interesting to see what she brings to the table.

Guy Ritchie's adaptation looks to follow the animated film quite closely in terms of plot and progression, though the actors and actresses — especially Will Smith as the Genie — have sought to take their own creative liberties with classic characters. Seeing these beloved characters brought to life on the big screen by real actors and actresses in a thrilling and vibrant recreation will be quite the spectacle.

A thrilling and vibrant live-action adaptation of Disney’s animated classic, “Aladdin” is the exciting tale of the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and the Genie who may be the key to their future. Directed by Guy Ritchie, who brings his singular flair for fast-paced, visceral action to the fictitious port city of Agrabah, “Aladdin” is written by John August and Ritchie based on Disney’s “Aladdin.” The film stars Will Smith as the Genie; Mena Massoud as Aladdin; Naomi Scott as Jasmine; Marwan Kenzari as Jafar; Navid Negahban as the Sultan; Nasim Pedrad as Dalia and Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders.

Aladdin arrives in theaters on May 24.

@MUTO123 - That's fine and all, but it'll never top when the red band trailer for NYMPHOMANIAC was shown in front of FROZEN in a theater in Florida.

@demery - Or that time when a bunch of kids went to see the Clone Wars movie in a theater and they accidentally played Tropic Thunder (and what does that movie open with? Not credits, not studio logos, but the [frick]ing Booty Sweat ad.)

@MUTO123 - ha reminds me of last year when they played Fifty Shades Freed instead of Black Panther.

@demery - @MUTO123 - I had a theater I went too accidentally show the first few minutes of The Snowman instead of Thor Ragnorok. That movie takes place in Norway so all the parents weren't sure whether or not it was Thor. FWI, The Snowman is norse Silence of The Lambs(but not as good)

@noahthegrand - It’s Silence of the Lambs if it were given the Fant4stic treatment.

The actors seem terrible. The guy playing Aladdin has no charisma.

@MexCowboyNation - How much you want to bet Jasmine's friend's the villain along with Jafar? That's how obvious this movie is. It's so – Are people really that easy to manipulate that they would pay to see this blatant cash grab?

Off-off-mega-off-topic, but I just finished Sense8 and what a great [frick]ing experience that show was. It started a little slow, and didn't always have the best story structure or the slickest production, but it's so [frick]ing full of heart and feels and love and schlock and balls. A little woolly at times, but I have to respect that last scene.

I get that broadcast affiliates wouldn't necessarily be comfortable with a show that explicit, but the whole time I was watching Sense8, I kept thinking "there is so much potential with this premise, why are there a million [frick]ing police procedurals, but there's only one show doing this gimmick?" It's fairly cheap to film and the narrative possibilities are endless.

The hate for this is ridiculous. After the 2nd teaser back in the day, it only got better and better to the point it looks and feels exactly like the animated version which is beloved.

Characters look good, Smith as Genie looks and sounds amazing. What else should they do in order for milleilans and haters to say that this looks solid?

Cautiously optimistic. The main guy playing Aladdin I've seen in adds and a few minor roles and hes not a very good actor, and the trailers haven't impressed me. But I'll take my nephew.

I'm watching Will Smith in an interview:

"Robin Williams didn't leave a lot of room for improvement so I needed an in to make it my own. I decided to wrap."

Hmmmmmm.
