Javier Bardem is in talks for a key role in Disney's live-action remake of
The Little Mermaid.
As first reported by
The DisInsider before being confirmed by Deadline, the Academy Award-winning
No Country for Old Men actor will play King Triton, who is Ariel's father.
We found out yesterday that
Harry Styles (
Dunkirk) is also in negotiations for the role of Prince Eric, but that doesn't appear to be set in stone just yet. We do know that Melissa McCarthy, Awkwafina and Jacob Tremblay are on board as Ursula, Scuttle and Flounder, respectively. Up-and-comer
Halle Bailey will play the love-struck mermaid of the title.
Lin-Manuel Miranda, who previously worked with director Rob Marshall on
Mary Poppins Returns, will also work on original music for
Mermaid along with composer Alan Menken.
