Javier Bardem is in talks for a key role in Disney's live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.

As first reported by The DisInsider before being confirmed by Deadline, the Academy Award-winning No Country for Old Men actor will play King Triton, who is Ariel's father.

We found out yesterday that Harry Styles (Dunkirk) is also in negotiations for the role of Prince Eric, but that doesn't appear to be set in stone just yet. We do know that Melissa McCarthy, Awkwafina and Jacob Tremblay are on board as Ursula, Scuttle and Flounder, respectively. Up-and-comer Halle Bailey will play the love-struck mermaid of the title.

Lin-Manuel Miranda, who previously worked with director Rob Marshall on Mary Poppins Returns, will also work on original music for Mermaid along with composer Alan Menken.

What do you guys make of this casting news? The Little Mermaid is scheduled to go into production early next year.

Enough with these live action remakes. They’re lazy and lack any creativity. Stuff like this is why people are worried about the Fox purchase.

Nice choice. Same with McCarthy and Tremblay. As for the rest, I either don't care or the least said the better.
