It is highly unlikely that too many children who grew up in the nineties would be unfamiliar with Disney's
Mighty Ducks franchise. The series saw a trilogy of films with
Mighty Ducks (1992), D2: Mighty Ducks (1994), and
D3: Mighty Ducks (1996). Prior to series like
Pirates of the Caribbean and the
Avengers these were Disney's bit hit films - and the company is banking on that nostalgia to deliver an upcoming series on their streaming service.
A rebooted series of
Mighty Ducks was previously reported to be in the works last year but now with Disney+ in the fold the show will officially begin filming in Vancouver in February for what will likely be a Fall 2020 launch date - depending on the length of time production takes. Following a 13 year old boy in his quest to put a team together after being disqualified from the
Mighty Ducks junior division, this series will take liberties to separate itself from the film trilogy while also keeping true enough to hopefully make fans happy.
Below are two character descriptions that recently hit the internet thanks to The Illuminerdi which give us insight into two of the supporting characters in this show. The descriptions certainly make it seem as though this series will be keeping the spirit of the original
Mighty Ducks franchise alive - but check out the descriptions for yourself below.
Adib Samitar/”Sam” is an 11 to 13 year old African American or Somali boy. Sam has mastered skateboard riding and always does things his way. The thrill-seeker rarely turns down a challenge, even deciding to befriend Evan after a violent collision on his trusty board. He joins the squad after realizing that he will be allowed to be a renegade.
Jaden Koobler/”Koob” is an 11 to 13 year old boy, who is said to be heavyset. Koob will never be mistaken for an Olympian, but instead is a hardcore video game player whose skin is pale from long hours of marathon gaming in his downstairs man cave. Though he rarely breaks focus from his monitors, he proves to have an almost superhuman level of dexterity and reflexes that are worthy of a kung-fu master. Koob is wary of joining the squad and will need to be dragged out of his safe space

Mighty Ducks or would you rather see Disney develiop some new intellectual properties rather than milking their nostalia-breeding ones? Let us know in the comments and take a walk down memory lane with this classic trailer for the first film below.
The upcoming Disney+ series will follow 13-year old Evan, who after being cut from the Mighty Ducks junior division team, gets an assist from his mother to assemble their own ragtag hockey squad. The show will then follow their recruitment efforts to find unlikely players, a coach, and even a place to play..
The Mighty Ducks reboot series will begin shooting in February 2020 for a ten-episode first season which will premiere on Disney+.
