It's been a big week for Disney CEO Bob Iger. After announcing that he'll remain in that role until 2026, the executive later got candid in an interview which saw him speak on the recent failings of Marvel, Star Wars, and Pixar.
In the same interview, Iger was asked about what was then a potential SAG-AFTRA strike and said, "It’s very disturbing to me...this is the worst time in the world to add to that [post-COVID] disruption."
Needless to say, these comments from a studio boss who earns tens of millions of dollars every year have not been received at all well. Talking to Variety on the picket line, SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher made her feelings on Iger known and definitely didn't hold back.
"I found them terribly repugnant and out of touch. Positively tone deaf. I don’t think it served him well," she said of Iger's recent remarks. "If I were that company, I would lock him behind doors and never let him talk to anybody about this."
It’s so obvious that he has no clue as to what is really happening on the ground with hard-working people that don’t make anywhere near the salary he is making," Drescher adds. "High seven figures, eight figures, this is crazy money that they make, and they don’t care if they’re land barons of a medieval time."
She's not the only one to have taken aim at Iger as Guardians of the Galaxy star Sean Gunn also tore into the Disney CEO. That was during an impassioned speech about why this strike is important and what it means for his fellow actors.
You can check out the video below, but something tells us Iger has inadvertently turned himself into someone members of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA can rally against.
Stay tuned for updates.
