The Lion King is just over a week away from roaring into theaters, and we now have a number of new clips from the highly anticipated "live-action" adaptation of the Disney classic.

In the first, we get to see that iconic "Circle of Life" sequence with Rafiki and Simba. The second is a brief sequence involving Scar taking Simba to the canyon that changes everything for the young lion, while the third is bound to make fans happy as it features a new rendition of "Hakuna Matata." The final clip sees Timon and Pumbaa discover the young, injured Simba.

Early word on the movie is overwhelmingly positive, and seeing as the sequel to the animated original was surprisingly decent, it will be interesting to see whether Disney decides to move forward with a live-action follow-up. Either way, we can expect The Lion King to be a huge hit next weekend.

That Hakuna Matata clip is so [frick]ing awkward. It's like the worst possible version of what it could have been; drab, lifeless and with some serious disconnect between Gambino's expressive voice and Simba's botox'd uncanny valley face.
Two of my go-to critics (Murrell, Ehrlich) are dunking pretty hard on this, so I'm interested to see what the general critical consensus will be.

Also, I really hope Gambino's last album ever isn't Disney's™ The Lion King® (2019): The Official Album.

@tmp3 - It's not as lifeless as the CIRCLE OF LIFE clip. At least Donald Glover's singing, though feeling out-of-place with that realistic design, still has energy to it.

The CIRCLE OF LIFE clip is just a shot-for-shot recreation of the original sequence that feels way more drab and lifeless and awkward.

Scar sounds better than I expected, I can live with this voice, but you can't beat Jeremy Irons, they really should have brought him back

@dracula - I'm still not looking forward to this flick in the slightest, but so far, Chiwetel Ejiofor seems to be the best part of the remake thus far.

to bad this movie doesn't have Danny Pudi, they had a great bromance and they sang well together

The Timon and Pumbaa clip is the best thing I've seen from this movie

The Circle of Life bit looks good, Lil' Simba is rather cute, but Scar doesn't convince me yet.

And damn, nearly everything about Gambino Simba in the Hakuna Matata clip seems extremely awkward.

Literally just animals with celeb voices played over the top. This is going to be the most overrated movie of the year, maybe decade

wtf? lol.

What was once a majestic and glorious scene in the animated original when Simba is lifted, now looks ugly pedestrian and comically flat. 😂

With the updated visuals today they could have made a gorgeous hand drawn animation feature instead they opted for expresionless beasts.
