THE LION KING Stars Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, & Billy Eichner Have No Worries In This New BTS Photo

The Lion King director Jon Favreau has shared a new behind-the-scenes photo from his upcoming adaptation of Disney's animated classic film, starring Donald Glover, Seth Rogan, and Billy Eichner...

There's a lot of anticipation surrounding Disney's upcoming adaptation of their classic animated film The Lion King, largely because of the talented cast they've brought to Pride Landes. In a newly posted photo to social media, director Jon Favreau offered fans a behind-the-scenes look at three of the film's stars - Donald Glover (adult Simba), Seth Rogan (Pumbaa, the Wartog), and Billy Eichner (Timon, the meerkat)

The photo appears to have been taken in a recording booth and although there's no context for what's being recording, only one major scene from the animated film comes to mind when you think of these three characters.

It's already been confirmed that Favreau's Lion King adaptation will feature four songs from the original film - the fan-favorite "Hakuna Matata" being one of them. Although he didn't say that's what was being recorded here, it's an exciting enough moment in the project to want to document and share with fans.

The Lion King will follow the "technologically groundbreaking" approach of The Jungle Book, which Jon Favreau also helmed. It will utilize improved cinematography technology to create photorealistic CGI-aniamted animals.

The synopsis for Favreau's iteration of The Lion King has not yet been released, but I can't imagine it'll stray too far from Disney's 1994 original version. The synopsis for that film reads:

An unforgettable story, breathtaking animation, beloved characters, and Academy Award(R)-winning music (Best Original Score, 1994; Best Song, "Can You Feel The Love Tonight") set the stage for the adventures of Simba, the feisty lion cub who "just can't wait to be king." But his envious Uncle Scar has plans for his own ascent to the throne, and he forces Simba's exile from the kingdom. Alone and adrift, Simba soon joins the escapades of a hilarious meerkat named Timon and his warmhearted warthog pal, Pumbaa. Adopting their carefree lifestyle of "Hakuna Matata," Simba ignores his real responsibilities until he realizes his destiny and returns to the Pride Lands to claim his place in the "Circle of Life."

In the original film, adult Simba was voiced by Matthew Broderick, Pumbaa by Ernie Sabella, and Timon by Nathan Lane. Similarly, Favreau's Lion King also boasts a star-studded cast that includes Glover, Rogen, and Eichner, as well as Beyonce Knowles-Carter (Nala), James Earl Jones (reprising Mufasa), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Scar), John Oliver (Zazu), and John Kani (Rafiki). The Lion King roars into theaters July 19, 2019.

This movie is gonna be awesome. The cast they got for these characters are really really good.

I am a bit sad that they didn't get Jeremy Irons for Scar again, though... But I understand why.

@guyatadesk - Yeah, it's not that big of a deal, I just would've loved for them to bring back Irons.

At least they got someone good. I'm a fan of Ejiofor -- I hope he has a big role in Doctor Strange 2.

@L0RDbuckethead - Irons is a loss, but Ejiofor is a good deep voice, and he, like irons always plays a really good bad guy(dr strange/firefly).

Im way more pissed about Nathan Lane, Rowan Atkinson and Ernie Sabella not reprising Timon, Zazu and Pumbaa. Seth rogan is meh - same with john oliver and billy eichner.

@Gizmoduck - Yeah, I can see why you would want the OG voice actors for those roles, as they're all beloved characters. However, I think Rogen and Oliver will do well, not sure about Eichner, I've only seen him in P&R and random RomComs.

But John Oliver as Zazu is a really good choice, IMO.

@L0RDbuckethead - Oliver isnt bad, but he isnt Rowan Atkinson man....hes soooo good, and cant be that hard to get for the role. Oliver only works because Zazu is supposed to sound like a pretentious dbag, which Oliver nails on the daily.

@Gizmoduck - My point exactly. I can't think of anyone better for the role (other than Atkinson).

@guyatadesk - exactly, I wish he would’ve reprised his role. Also disappointed their leaving out his song “Be Prepared.”

I'm on Donald-Glover overload. He's cool I just need a solid year off; little too much.

@SpideyPuffsMJ - is he like that friend that keeps coming over uninvited? He brings some good pot so you kinda let it slide but you really want him to go when your done and in some cases not even cone over?

@SpideyPuffsMJ - Maybe it's just his shtick now, but he looks so uninterested every time I see a picture of him. He wrote a letter to SNL about how hosting and getting to do comedy again made him the happiest that he'd been in years. I just hope to see this dude again sometime soon.

Lest we forget, Glover at his heart is a stand up comedian. He was first discovered as a member of the internet comedy group Derrick Comedy. It just so happens that he became more well-known for his writing on 30 Rock, rapping and then his 'Community' role, so stand-up kinda fell by the wayside, because it's definitely not the most lucrative of his professions.

If you (or anyone else) hasn't seen his standup called 'Weirdo,' I'd highly recommend it. Here's the first few minutes:

In this, he talks about how the rumor of him for Spider-Man kinda started.

I can't wait to see a teaser or trailer. Those in attendance at D23 when the teaser was shown said it was visually mind blowing.

@Pantherpool - Yup, I enjoyed the recreation of his meeting with King Louie. Christopher Walken did a great job with the song.
