"What makes a toy, a toy?"

This is the question Pixar will set out to answer with Toy Story 4 when it arrives in theaters this summer. The highly anticipated sequel will return much of the beloved toys from the first three films and will also introduce some newcomers, like Forky, a spork with stick-on googly eyes and pipe cleaner arms. Forky is brough to life through Bonnie's creativity. While he's not a conventional "toy" by any means, that probably doesn't matter to her. A child doesn't always need some fancy, out-of-the-box toy; sometimes a little imagination will do just fine.

For Forky though, he's about to have himself an existential crisis as he struggles to understand his place in the world. Is he a toy, or is he trash? What's his purpose? These are questions that Forky will presumably bestow on the rest of the toys, especially Woody, as they head off on an adventurous road trip and quickly find out how big the world actually is for a toy.

Check out the latest TV Spot for Toy Story 4 and see Forky come to life for the first time.

Woody (voice of Tom Hanks) has always been confident about his place in the world, and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. So when Bonnie’s beloved new craft-project-turned-toy, Forky (voice of Tony Hale), declares himself as “trash” and not a toy, Woody takes it upon himself to show Forky why he should embrace being a toy. But when Bonnie takes the whole gang on her family’s road trip excursion, Woody ends up on an unexpected detour that includes a reunion with his long-lost friend Bo Peep (voice of Annie Potts). After years of being on her own, Bo’s adventurous spirit and life on the road belie her delicate porcelain exterior. As Woody and Bo realize they’re worlds apart when it comes to life as a toy, they soon come to find that’s the least of their worries.

The latest teaser spot follows on the heels of yesterday's TV spot, which introduced us to Duke Caboom, a 1970s action figure based on Canada's greatest stuntman (and voiced by Keanu Reeves). Check out the teaser here.

Toy Story 4 arrives in theaters on June 20, 2019.

So all I have to do is glue some googly eyes on something and it automatically comes to life?

@ANewPope - But what if I glued the eyes on and then hated it? Does it still come to life?

I like to think between Toy Story 3 and 4 that the last couple of episodes of Happy! happened.

I'm not sure how I feel about continuing this franchise, but I gotta admit, a once inanimate object dealing with the existential horror of sudden consciousness is pretty interesting.
