It has been announced that
Marvel's Doctor Strange has finally exited North American movie theaters last Thursday. After 19 long weeks, the film has earned
$232.6 million domestic and
$677 million worldwide. That is pretty impressive for a film that only had a budget of $165 million. That means the Marvel flick has earned more than four times its budget. Quite the accomplishment for this relatively unknown superhero.
How does this compare to the rest of the Marvel Studios movies? Well it is currently the ninth highest grossing MCU film domestically and the seventh highest grossing MCU film worldwide. It finished right between
Thor: The Dark World and
Captain America: The Winter Soldier on both accounts. It also has the fifth strongest domestic box office legs in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe with a multiplier of
2.73 off an opening weekend of $85 million. That is only lower than
Guardians of the Galaxy (3.53),
Ant-Man (3.15),
Iron Man (3.11), and
Marvel's The Avengers (3.01).
Marvel's Doctor Strange finished as the thirteenth highest grossing film of 2016 domestically. What do you think of its box office run? Sound off below! The Marvel flick currently available on home media.
