DOCTOR STRANGE 2 Star Xochitl Gomez Weighs In On America Chavez Possibly Being A Mutant In The MCU (Exclusive)

With Ms. Marvel revealing Kamala Khan as the MCU's first mutant, could America Chavez be next? Here's what Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness star Xochitl Gomez told us about that possibility...

In Ms. Marvel's finale, Kamala Khan learned that she has a "mutation" in her DNA. This was key to the teenager accessing the powers within the Noor bangle handed down by her ancestors, and the X-Men '97 theme was all the confirmation we needed that the hero is the MCU's first mutant.

In the comic books, the source of America Chavez's abilities is pretty convoluted and not necessarily something that would translate easily to the MCU. While she may hail from an alternate reality, is it possible this character could also be a mutant?

Talking to us about Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' release on 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD, Xochitl Gomez had this to say when we asked if she thinks that might be a good potential direction to take America in. "Yeah, I mean I'm honestly open to anything," she says in the video below. "As long as we get to see...I think there's so much more to her and her story that we haven't really seen yet."

"I think there are lots of layers to America, and I think there are some fun things to explore. Hopefully, we get to explore the things, and yeah, I think that's all I'm gonna say [Laughs]."

The way America's story ends is very much open to interpretation. While she's clearly mastered her powers, the hero is now being trained as a sorcerer by Wong in Kamar Taj. Asked what she thinks that could be leading to, Gomez shared, "Yeah, you see her in Kamar Tak and she's learning the mystic arts, which is different form of magic than her powers."

"I think it's really cool that she's learning that, and also just being at Kamar Taj gives her some [Laughs] discipline and just a place to call home since, obviously, she doesn't really have a place like that," the actor continued. "Being there with Wong I think is a good choice and a smart decision."

As we mentioned a little earlier today, it's hard to believe Marvel Studios doesn't have big plans for America now we're in the midst of The Multiverse Saga. She's the only hero with the power to travel through reality, and if you look to Jonathan Hickman's Secret Wars for clues, there's probably a good chance she could take the place of Molecule Man.

As for the possibility of making the teenager a mutant, that would make sense with where the MCU appears to be heading and could lead to a team-up we'd very much like to see on screen...

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now available on Digital and will be released on 4K, Blu-ray and DVD July 26.

Her being switched to a mutant wouldn't bother me. I'm more interested in her being more interesting as a character because she was pretty forgettable in Doctor Strange despite the strong personality of the character in comics.

America and Ms Marvel look like they can be cousins.

I think america will be the most important part of the multiversal saga. I just dont know when they'll actually explore her. Characters like Falcon, wanda etc were introduced in 2014 but didn't get fleshed out until well now

So if we go by the lore of the MCU thus far and not the comics, An Incursion is when two multiverses collide and implode because of multiversal travel for a prolonged period of time. Multiverse of Madness states this is mainly due to Dream walking which is when a user takes over the physical body of their variant in another universe and that causes the two universe to begin bonding together. So that means Universe 838 and Universe 616 should be on the verge of an Incursion setting up Secret Wars. I think Earth 838 sending their mutants and their Miles Morales is what's going to end up happening leaving them on Earth 616 as either Galactus, Doom, or Kang obliterates 838.

America Chavez is from another dimension in the comics.
She is basically an alien.

I feel like we as fans have mislead Marvel Studios in our clamoring for mutants. Somehow they think that we just want "mutants" in general and not the ACTUAL MUTANT CHARACTERS that we all know and love. Idk maybe it's just me.
