During this past weekend's San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios stole the show in Hall H after revealing many of the movies and TV shows that will be part of "The Multiverse Saga." Culminating with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, the next few Phases look set to be absolutely epic, and there's one character likely to be key to that.
In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, we were introduced to Xochitl Gomez's America Chavez. The reality-hopping teenager has the ability to travel through the Multiverse, and as the only hero that we know of with that power, you have to believe she will be key in defeating Kang the Conqueror.
Talking to us this week to mark the release of the Doctor Strange sequel on 4K, Blu-ray and DVD, Gomez shared her reaction to the big news that came out of Comic-Con.
"I saw [The Multiverse Saga announcement] and I was like, 'Oooh!' I mean, I haven't gotten a call or anything. I haven't been told what is next for America, but obviously, as a fan, I was listening to the things that were rolling out, and I was like, 'Oh, there's a possibility America could totally be in that!,'" she says in the video below. "So, just fingers crossed. I'm really excited to see what happens because the Multiverse...there's unlimited possibilities with that."
Later we asked the actor how it feels to see fans embrace America and the very vocal desire for the character to appear in her own Disney+ TV series or movie. To that, Gomez expressed her gratitude and circled back to the importance of the Multiverse, and potentially America Chavez, in this Saga.
"It's pretty crazy that not only do people love the character, but they want to see more of her. They haven't told me what's next for my character, but I obviously can't ignore that America's powers are, you know, Multiverse and the next chapter of the MCU is called The Multiverse Saga [Laughs]."
"I'm just hoping that America Chavez has a role to play in that and hopefully, it gets to unfold over the next four years or so," she added. "Who knows!"
As for whether she thinks America should assemble alongside The Avengers or Young Avengers, all Gomez would say was, "I am literally up for anything. Like, give me like a five-minute cameo...not even that. Two seconds! I will do it [Laughs]."
We obviously can't underestimate America's importance heading deeper into The Multiverse Saga, and with the hero gaining control over her powers with Wong's help in Kamar Taj, she may soon be the only one capable of stopping Kang. If nothing else, the teenager is going to be a key player in the war that's on the horizon, so we'll be keeping a close eye on what comes next.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now available on Digital and will be released on 4K, Blu-ray and DVD July 26.
