DOCTOR STRANGE 2: The Actors Playing America Chavez's "Two Moms" Reportedly Revealed DOCTOR STRANGE 2: The Actors Playing America Chavez's "Two Moms" Reportedly Revealed

We recently learned that Saudi Arabia asked Disney to cut America Chavez's reference to her "two moms" in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and it looks like the characters are going to appear.

It recently came to light that Saudi Arabia had threatened to pull Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness from theaters in the region because of a brief reference America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) makes to her "two moms" at one point, and it looks like the reality-hopping hero's parents are actually going to appear in the movie.

One Take News reports that actresses Ruther Livier and Chess Lopez have been cast as America’s mothers in the sequel. We don't know the extent of their roles, but assume they won't be significant. Lopez is a relative newcomer with a few short films on her resume, while Livier has appeared in 90210 and done some voice-acting in video games such as Sly 3, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and Dead Rising 3.

If true, this is an interesting development. Saudi Arabia clearly had an issue with Chavez mentioning that she was raised by a lesbian couple, but there's been no indication that they objected to the characters appearing on screen. In any event, Disney has declined to make the requested cuts, so In The Multiverse of Madness will effectively be banned in the Kingdom as well as Kuwait and Qatar.

The social media embargo lifts this Monday, so we'll get the first reactions to Sam Raimi's sequel then. Our review will follow on Tuesday.

In Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the MCU unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. Journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, with Michael Stühlbarg, and Rachel McAdams. The film is directed by Sam Raimi, and Kevin Feige is the producer. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Eric Hauserman Carroll and Jamie Christopher serve as executive producers. The screenplay was written by Michael Waldron.

The Doctor Strange sequel releases in U.S. theaters on May 6, 2022.

@kRAVENkIaw -

I've only seen it once, and I didn't like it at all. But it has gathered quite a cult following from what I've noticed, so I might give it another look sooner or later.

@DrReedRichards - Well, damn. I had a friend in high school who liked it and wanted me to check it out, but they had rather strange taste in film, so I’ve kind of been putting it off.

@kRAVENkIaw - If you're not into camp then you should probably skip it. On the Sam Raimi Scale of Camp it's somewhere between Evil Dead 1 & Army of Darkness. Not exactly "serious horror" like The Gift, but at the same time not full blown circus like Evil Dead 2. Personally found it to be quite the laugh riot, but it's not for everyone.

@kRAVENkIaw - I would say that it is like a mix between Insidious and Evil Dead. It's also interesting because it's sort of watching a women be supernaturally tortured for the whole runtime...

That said, I'm a huge fan of it and it is sure to get a reaction out of you.

@Reeds2Much - I’m VERY into camp, especially when it comes to horror. I’ve just heard that it’s kinda depressing, and movies that have bad endings aren’t really my cup of tea.

@TheRose - Would you say it’s more Evil Dead or Army of Darkness?

@kRAVENkIaw - More Evil Dead. The characters all take the supernatural effects seriously, whereas the "monster" doesn't care how ridiculous or grotesque they get. Army or Darkness is a bit more self-aware.

@TheRose - Well then I’ve definitely gotta check it out. I love Army of Darkness but I love the straight-faced serious approach that the Evil Dead to the crazy stuff.

The last Dr. Strange movie ended with Strange basically beating Dormammu with a logic puzzle, so I'm really interested in how they handle this one.
