Sam Raimi's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is already halfway towards hitting the $1 billion milestone after less than a full week on general release.
The MCU sequel had a strong opening weekend in North America, passing the $200M mark domestically on Tuesday. Now, the latest box office updates are in, and the (former) Sorcerer Supreme's second solo outing has conjured-up a magical $500M worldwide.
Though Marvel Studios movies generally perform very well, In The Multiverse of Madness received relatively so-so reviews (it currently sits at 75% on Rotten Tomatoes) and was given one of the lowest CinemaScores of any MCU release. This clearly hasn't deterred audiences from showing up in droves, but it will be interesting to see if Doctor Strange 2 can maintain this momentum moving forward.

The film is directed by Sam Raimi, and Kevin Feige is the producer. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Eric Hauserman Carroll and Jamie Christopher serve as executive producers. The screenplay was written by Michael Waldron.
