Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness didn't explore the Multiverse in the way many fans had hoped, hence why there was no sign of Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man or an Earth where Steve Rogers was U.S. President (two popular rumours prior to the sequel's release).
The movie's main cameos came our way when we met Earth-838's Illuminati, though we've since heard that multiple actors and characters were cut from the sequence.
For example, it's believed a stand-in was used for Magneto at one point, while scheduling issues saw Daniel Craig forced to pass on the role of Balder the Brave. The biggest surprise was John Krasinski's Mister Fantastic, an actor Elizabeth Olsen has since confirmed she never crossed paths with on set.
Now, Captain Carter actress Hayley Atwell has revealed many of the Illuminati's cameos were shot without the characters ever really standing side-by-side.
Talking to Happy Sad Confused, the Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One star was asked about the star-studded sequence and said, "No, John Krasinski wasn’t there, Lashana Lynch was there, Patrick Stewart wasn’t there. So, it was weird..."
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness underwent more than one round of reshoots and this sequence was changed multiple times. While Captain Carter and Captain Marvel were clearly always meant to be there, the rest of this group's roster was fluid.
Earth-838 is a location which we're expecting to return to in Deadpool 3, with that empty chair likely belonging to a certain Master of Magnetism.
That hasn't been confirmed, but it would make all the sense in the world (Multiverse?) to further explore the impact of the Scarlet Witch's actions when she inhabited the body of her alternate-reality counterpart and laid waste to many of Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
Recently, Atwell expressed disappointment with her live-action Captain Carter cameo. Read more about that by clicking here.
