Tilda Swinton May End Up Playing 'The Ancient One' As A Man In DOCTOR STRANGE

Tilda Swinton played a male character in the Constantine movie, but will history repeat itself when she takes on the role of The Ancient One in Marvel's Doctor Strange? Well, in a recent interview, the actress may have dropped a hint about just that. Read on for details...

Doctor Strange is expected to begin shooting this November, but it sounds like Tilda Swinton still isn't sure which gender she'll be playing The Ancient One as in the Marvel Studios movie. Wait, what?! Well, in a recent interview with The Guardian, the site concludes their report by stating that "She will soon start shooting a Marvel blockbuster, Doctor Strange, but there is a Swinton-esque twist – she doesn’t yet know if she will play the part as a man or a woman." We already know that The Ancient One will just be a mantle in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so it could be that the character simply isn't defined by gender. The Ancient One isn't a man or woman; they're The Ancient One. That or  Swinton will just be playing a male character as she did in Constantine! It's hard to say at this point, but this is certainly an interesting twist...what do you guys think?

So they cast a female to play a male?

In all seriousness, how does she not know if her character is male or female? She must have read a script before signing on. You don't just sign on for a role you have no idea if it's a male or a female.

@VisualMaximus50

He knew he was playing Hal and was the lead.

Tilda doesn't know if she's playing a female or a male in a role where is she is supporting.

Big difference.

I don't see a problem with casting a female or play a male or vice versa. I mean the very earliest forms of theaters and film had males play female parts and roles.

But nowadays, we don't do that besides probably on Broadway plays.

But I guess most are gonna be cool with a female actress playing a male character and still hate MBJ as Human Torch.

*grabs popcorn

My question is:
What's the point of casting a female actress in the role of a male character only for her to play the character as a male?
