DOCTOR STRANGE Sequel Reshoots Are Done; Benedict Cumberbatch Talks SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Success

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has finally wrapped additional photography, and Benedict Cumberbatch has now weighed in on the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Find out more after the jump!

Benedict Cumberbatch returned as Stephen Strange in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and that movie perfectly set the stage for the hero to explore alternate realities in this May's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The sequel's teaser trailer was even included as a post-credits scene (it's since been officially released), so it was an important adventure for the former Sorcerer Supreme.

Deadline recently caught up with the British actor and confirmed that the reshoots we first heard about last year wrapped this past Saturday. As you may recall, it was reported at the time that they were adding a lot of cameos to the Doctor Strange sequel to better take advantage of the Multiverse.

"I’m thrilled at the reaction to the teaser trailer at the end of Spider-Man; I’m thrilled at the reaction that film’s been having," Cumberbatch said. "I mean, it’s been a bit of a moment, to be honest."

Strange was a crucial part of Spider-Man: No Way Home, and the movie has gone on to gross over $1.5 billion at the worldwide box office. That's a mind-blowing figure in this "pandemic era," so it's no wonder Cumberbatch is feeling a tad overwhelmed by the response to the threequel.

With Sam Raimi at the helm of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, we're definitely expecting something special. It does sound like it will be jam-packed with cameos and references to the past, but given how well Marvel Studios has handled large ensemble casts and fan service in the past - just look at Avengers: Endgame and No Way Home - we're not too concerned!

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to be released on May 6.
