Empire unveiled a pair of trippy Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness covers yesterday, and the mag has now shared two new stills from Sam Raimi's mind-bending sequel.

The first finds the (former) Sorcerer Supreme (Benedict Cumberbatch) at the mercy of a mysterious group (if you're up to date with the leaks, you'll have a pretty good idea who), while the second reveals that America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) has also been captured and awaits judgement alongside her new ally.

“Strange is still learning about the Multiverse,” says Raimi of the pair's dynamic. “And here’s a character that can actually travel through it. He’s such a know-it-all all the time, and to have to learn from a kid probably smarts.”

Can the sequel hope to match the success of the similarly-themed Spider-Man: No Way Home? Cumberbatch believes that if the movie is able to "bring off the level of ambition it's got," it should have no problem in that regard.

“There’s a lot of reckoning,” adds The Power of the Dog star. “And a lot of self-discovery. Strange is almost a stranger to himself before this film unfolds and reveals what, essentially, is in his nature, that he then has to either confront or resist or fall into or become. There are some very bold ideas, and some extraordinary tests of Strange and encounters. There are some very unexpected conclusions.”

In Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the MCU unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. Journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, with Michael Stühlbarg, and Rachel McAdams. The film is directed by Sam Raimi, and Kevin Feige is the producer. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Eric Hauserman Carroll and Jamie Christopher serve as executive producers. The screenplay was written by Michael Waldron.

The Doctor Strange sequel releases in U.S. theaters on May 6, 2022.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness I see another Spider-Man No Way Home on our hands at Rotten Tomatoes and Box Office but opening in the Summer of Blockbusters and NO Pandemic. Also opening in China May 4th, 2022.

One thing all the Marvel movies and shows have going for them is they're action packed, not long and boring and kid friendly have lots of humor.

I really hope this movie has purpose and isn't just scene after scene without cause and effect. So many movies suffer from the "and then" writing format.

Benedict is a master of saying a lot about the film without spoiling anything.
That quote is giving me blue balls what is he talking about ? The curiousity is killing me and I can't wait 2 more months. I'm gonna avoid rotten tomatoes on this one and go in blind.
