Word on a certain surprise casting in Eternals leaked following initial press screenings a couple of weeks ago, so you may already be aware of this. If you're not and haven't had a chance to see the movie yet, best stop reading now as major spoilers follow from this point on.
Still here?
So, in the mid-credits scene, we catch up with three of the Eternals, Thena (Angelina Jolie), Druig (Barry Keoghan) and Makkari (Lauren Ridloff), who have become disillusioned after having no luck on their mission to scour the universe for more of their kind. Just as they're about to give up and return to Earth, they're interrupted by Pip the Troll (Patton Oswalt), who then introduces Eros, brother of Thanos, played by none other than Harry Styles.
During an interview with Cinemablend, director Chloe Zhao was asked about this casting decision, and revealed that she's had her eye on Styles ever since seeing his performance in Dunkirk. She goes on to say that Styles' personality made him a perfect fit for Eros in her estimation, implying that he was her only choice for the role.
A first look at Styles as Eros, aka Starfox, has now leaked online. If you're curious, you can check it out here.
Marvel Studios’ Eternals follows a group of heroes from beyond the stars who had protected the Earth since the dawn of man. When monstrous creatures called the Deviants, long thought lost to history, mysteriously return, the Eternals are forced to reunite in order to defend humanity once again.
The outstanding ensemble cast includes Gemma Chan as humankind-loving Sersi, Richard Madden as the all-powerful Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as cosmic-powered Kingo, Lia McHugh as the eternally young, old-soul Sprite, Brian Tyree Henry as the intelligent inventor Phastos, Lauren Ridloff as the super-fast Makkari, Barry Keoghan as aloof loner Druig, Don Lee as the powerful Gilgamesh, with Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, with Salma Hayek as the wise and spiritual leader Ajak, and Angelina Jolie as the fierce warrior Thena.
