There's a huge amount of excitement surrounding the release of Eternals, and based on everything we've heard, it sounds like director Chloé Zhao has created one of the most unique, visually stunning Marvel Cinematic Universe movies to date.
With any luck, we'll be able to watch the film in theaters this November, but we have Black Widow to look forward to before then. Natasha Romanoff's solo adventure is currently set to be released in May, and the hope is that there won't be any further delays.
Recently, Vulture ran a profile on Zhao which revealed that she met with Marvel Studios about potentially helming Black Widow. Ultimately, Cate Shortland landed the gig, but it seems the filmmaker was on Marvel's radar for a while, and when she met with them to discuss Black Widow, Zhao clearly did enough to convince them she would be a good fit for Eternals.
Unfortunately, as incredible as it is that 2021 will see the release of two MCU blockbusters from female directors, there remains a great deal of uncertainty around whether they'll meet their targeted dates.
For example, if Black Widow is pushed from May, the entire Phase 4 slate will once again fall down the calendar. That could see Eternals pushed into 2022, a disappointing outcome when it was supposed to be released in theaters last November (before being hit by multiple delays due to COVID-19).
How excited are you to see Zhao's take on the world of the Eternals?
