Somewhat surprisingly, It sounds like a sequel to Marvel's Eternals may be in the works.
Though there's been no official announcement from the studio, actor Patton Oswalt, who played Pip the Troll in the movie's post-credits scene, seemingly let slip that another movie is in-development. "They have announced there's going to be an Eternals sequel, Chloe Zhao is going to direct it. So hopefully there will be more adventures of Starfox and Pip," Oswalt told Al Rocker while being interviewed for The Today Show.
MCU sequels are a regular occurrence, of course, but Eternals is the only Marvel Studios movie to drop to "rotten" status on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, and the divisive superhero epic was landed with another rather dubious distinction when it finished up its domestic run with a disappointing $164.9 million.
This gave Eternals the lowest domestic haul of any MCU-set movie aside from 2008's The Incredible Hulk ($134M), and even though the movie performed much better overseas (its global cume passed $400 million mark), it was generally assumed that its BO performance and critical reception would influence Disney's decision when it came to potentially fast-tracking a follow-up.
That said, we were always likely to see these characters again at some point, and unless Oswalt is way off course here, the immortal heroes will reassemble on the big screen down the line.
