Avengers Initiative- Movie Pitch

This is an original idea I had for a prequel to kick start the MCU's Phase 4. Hank Pym, Janet Van Dyne, Captain Mar-Vell, Namor and the original Nick Fury unite to down AIM.

AVENGERS INITIATIVE

This is an original idea I had for a prequel to kick start Phase 4.

PREMISE
In the 1980s, SHIELD recruits Hank Pym, Janet Van Dyne, Namor, Captain Mar-Vell and the original Nick Fury to take down MODOK, an AI designed by AIM who plans to take over the world by replacing world leaders with Life Model Decoys (robots) at his command. It would be directed by Matthew Vauhn with a similar tone to Kingsman.

HOW TO MAKE IT
In the first Avengers movie, Nick Fury mentions that the Avengers Initiative was a SHIELD program about bringing Earth's Mightiest Heroes together. What if this program had already been secretly employed 30 years before? I know the story might contradict some existing MCU canon, but a little retcon never hurt anyone (ok maybe a couple of times). Fury could explain all the background stuff with voiceover in the opening minutes of the film.

WHY TO MAKE IT
A prequel would provide a fresh start for Phase 4. The purpose of the film would be to bring justice to Hank Pym, Janet Van Dyne, Namor, Captain Mar-Vell, the original Nick Fury, and more importantly: SHIELD. I would further explain each case individually.

Hank and Janet Pym
Most agree that Hank and Janet were not 'made justice' in the Antman movie. Many agree that a prequel movie about the duo woud be awesome but I think that it would be kind of redundant and pointless for the general audience since we are already having 'Antman and the Wasp' in 2018. This is a way of making justice to the characters while still providing a fresh entry to the MCU. The movie would rectify some important stuff from the comics like making the iconic couple founding members of the Avengers,  making Janet come up with the team's name and making Hank responsible for the creation of Ultron by showing him working on some AI stuff settling the scientific ground for Tony Stark to take over 30 years later (I know how obssesive this sounds but I need this).

Namor
I don't think a Namor solo movie would work after DC's Aquaman. I also don't really want a F4 vs Namor movie since there are far better foes for the Fantastisc team. So I thought it would be fun to have him team up with Earth's Mightiest Heroes in a period piece (he is one of Marvel's oldest characters along with Cap after all).

Nick Fury
This is a complicated one. In the comics (616 universe), the black Nick Fury is called Nick Fury Jr and he is the son of the white Nick Fury (obviously with an african-american mother). I would like to see the classic Fury (who has been around for over 50 years), and maybe a cool father-son story that would serve as an origin story for the man who brought the Avengers together in 2012.

Captain Mar-Vell
So, we are getting a Captain Marvel movie in 2019. This is great, but as the movie will focus on the second Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers, I'm afraid the original Kree Captain Mar-Vell, will probably be left aside/absent. A prequel movie could make him justice.

SHIELD
The interpretation of SHIELD is the worst thing about the MCU for me. I just hate AOS, and I made a whole article about my interpretation which you can read here. The thing is that SHIELD was destroyed in TWS, so the only way of redeeming it is with a prequel. I always thought that a SHIELD movie has huge potential, so the Avengers Initiative movie would be mainly about SHIELD. 5 heroes led by the classic Nick Fury on a secret mission to save the world. Spies, superheroes, jetpacks and evil robots would abound.

Forget all the stupid retconning with Hank and Janet. The MCU is different than 616. Get over it.

MODOK is a horribly cartoonish villain. I don't want him anywhere near the MCU. Once he appears, the universe will have officially nuked the fridge.

Matthew Vaugn would never direct this. He already did a period superhero movie showing the origins of a super team. And he wouldn't do the sequel because he felt he had nothing more to add as a filmmaker.

I like the idea of a movie set earlier in the timeline showing Hank and Janet and a young Nick Fury (forget the Sr./Jr. crap), but I don't care for the rest of this idea.

But why would Namor get involved directly?

@MileHighRonin - Maybe AIM has stolen Atlantean tech or something?. IDK, Namor has been in a lot of superhero teams.

@ManMan - I know he has been on a lot of teams. What I'm asking is why would Namor or Atlantis be involved in this? What would cause an alliance with Atlantis and the surface dwellers?

Him joining needs to make sense, not just be a part of it just cause.

@MileHighRonin - I just offered an answer. AIM could steal an Atlantean artifact, or maybe they killed Namor's father like Black Panther in CW. There are many possibilities.

You have a lot of great ideas and it would definitely be an interesting movie. I have some thoughts on your ideas:

- Hank and Janet need some love on the big screen and this is a great way to do it. This would mark the first time the MCU has a married superhero couple.
Hope should also be in it as a child. The Pyms should have a though time both being heroes and parents.

- The whole Fury's-dad-thing would probably be confusing. I doubt people would buy that Samuel Jackson's Nick Fury could have had a white father. Also how old is Fury supposed to be in the MCU? Around 60-65? This would put him in his 30's in the 1980's, so it would make more sense to have a Jackson-lookalike play him as a younger man instead.
As much as I like the original Fury I don't think it would work.

- I'm not sure about the inclusion of Namor and Mar-Vell but I guess it could work with the right writer. Though having to explain both a Kree and an Atlantian in one film might be too much. Maybe just stick to one of them.
Instead they could use other lesser known Avengers from the comics like Black Knight, Tigra etc.

- MODOK is a hard villain to pull off, but it could be done with some alterations. I wouldn't include AIM though as it doesn't fit with the timeline in Iron Man 3.

- Peggy Carter should definitely be a part of the movie.

Overall your idea has a lot of potential!

@ChrisRed - Thanks man!

-Yeah I love the idea of the married superhero couple.

- I could buy that Fury is in his 50s now, so he'd be in his 20's then (John Boyega maybe?). But yeah it would be really weird for him to have a white father. I included this because it was this way in the comics.

-They are introducing an Atlantean and a lot of other characters in JL. I would make this movie have a cool campy tone like Kingsman, very unserious. This relates to your point about MODOK.

-Totally forgot about Peggy! She definitely has to be there.
