First things first, I'm not to sure what the rumours are these days on how Snyder plans on tackeling the Man of Steel, but frankly I'd like a fresh origin story that completely seperates this Superman from Donner's Superman; essentially a new Superman for a modern Era. Anyways, for my fan cast/fan fic, I'm admitedly drawing heavy inspiration from the recent Superman: Secret Origin comic book and the Superman: Birthright comic book as they literally are the best Superman origin stories I've read in a long time.
Anyways, here's my cast!
Clark Kent aka Superman - Owain Yeoman
Visually he looks like a young version of Alex Ross's Superman, and standing at 6'4'' is helpful as it helps give him an imposing, and powerful appeal. Storywise, I imagine Superman to have been travelling the world, looking for a purpose, only to realise after the assasination of a friend of his (yes this is directly from the Birthright comic) that he needs to step out of the shadows and acts as beacon of hope, and justice to the world. In regards, to Clark's experiences in regards to Krypton, I expect there to be opening credit sequence much like the Incredible Hulk to show Krypton's destruction, and the meteor shower that hit Smallville. Now admitedly, the costume isn't the original Superman costume, but I thought it would be bad-ass for a modern update of Superman, though it should have the original Superman symbol instead of the Kingdom Come one, and yeah, the suit is made in the Kent farm once Clark returns and embraces his destiny
The Kents - Bruce Greenwood & Holly Hunter
I feel both actors have that soothing/loving appeal to them that audiences would affiliate with the Kents, and they're both good actors. Storywise, I primarily expect this to be a small role, a few flashback scenes of the Kent's revealing to Clark he's adopted and special, etc
Pete Ross - Brett Harrison
Clark's childhood friend. Essentially this is another small role; just something to flesh out a picture of Clark's social life/teenage years. Storywise, he's currently engaged to Clark's old sweetheart Lana Lang; things have been kind of tense between the two, but Clark returns to Smallville for thier wedding, and this leads to his journey to Metropolis and his eventual appearance as Superman. Also, much like in the Smallville tv show, I'd like Pete to know Clark's secret, just to cement the bond they have, and how things are now tense between them
Lana Lang - Anne Hathaway
She has the perfect 'girl next door' feel to her, that I believe is a necessity for Lana. Storywise, I imagine a flashback sequence of some sort of her not wanting to leave Smallville with Clark as 'its all she knows,' this leads to her break up and her eventual marriage with Pete (this whole Clark-Pete-Lana love triangle is something that I feel can be explored in potential sequels to hlp emphasise the human element to Superman)
Lois Lane - Amanda Righetti
She has great chemistry with Yeoman on the Mentalist, plus if you've seen her on the O.C. you know she can handle the fiesty element necessary for Lois. Storywise, she's Perry White's protegee, but due to the Daily Planet's failing reputation that doesn't mean much anymore, well not until Superman shows up. Also, relationship wise, I'd like to see some flirty banter between her and Clark, however with Superman I expect her to admire and have a crush on him like a teenager would have for a celebrity or something...
James Olsen - Anton Yelchin
A tough kid who grew up in the Suicide Slums area of Metropolis, essentially trying to make a name for himself by becoming a photo-journalist. Storywise, the relationship between Olsen and the rest of the Daily Planet staff should be familial; Lois teasingly calling him Jimmy (thier relationship should be like brother and sister), Perry treating him like a son he never, whilst Clark seems to give him a bit more respect; cementing a friendship between them from the get go, etc
Ron Troupe - Omar Epps
Another short role, admitedly, but he has a wise look to him that is definetly needed for the role. I imagine him to be one of the other few people who work at the Planet and treat him like an adult. Storywise, he alongside Lois, Jimmy and Perry are one of the few supporters of Superman once the government put a 'hit on his head'
Steve Lombard - Joe Manganiello
Another short role, I admitedly choose him because he has that beef-head/jock look to him. Once Superman first shows up, he's not completely trusting of him, and this leads to some office tensions, etc
Cat Grant - Adrianne Palecki
Once more, another short role... Anyways, I imagine her to be a 'Luthor lover' essentially she's not a bad person, but usually writes about Luthor in a positive light, also I imagine her to be flirty like her comic counterpart, and also to be untrusting towards Superman at first, only to be brought round along with Lombard near the finale. Also, I imagine her to become friends with Clark pretty quickly, respecting him as he tends not to pay attention to her physical assets... lol...
Perry White - Adam Baldwin
He has the perfect commanding presenence for the role, and can definetly deliver the perfect balance of comic relief and intensity needed. Storywise, the Daily Planet isn't what it used to be, especially since Morgan Edge a shady businesman who is Lex Luthor's godfather owns it, and tends to use it as propaganda machine to prevent anyone from paying too much attention towards LuthorCorp's unique business interests
Lex Luthor - Jude Law
He has that perfect smug/intelligent look to him, that I feel would make him a better Lex Luthor than say Billy Zane for instance. Storywise, Lex's 'link' to Clark is slightly inspired by the Smallvile tv show, so yeah, Lex was in Smallville and was balded by Kryptonite radiation, but he and Clark never met, thought much like in the Birthright comic, I do like the idea of Lex finding a Kryptonian USB/Crystal- this could explain how he has become the most revolutionary arms manufactor/govenrment contractor in the USA. Also, as for Lex's stance against Superman, I want it to mainly stem from paranoia and greed; from the Crystal which essentially allows him to learn about Krypton, and makes him think that Superman wont share this technology so it should be taken by force- essentially this should lead to the whole army vs Superman battle
Mercy Graves - Charlize Theron
Lex's 2nd in command. Essentially his business partner and closest confident. Admitedly, this role isn't too big for this movie, but I imagine it to be beefed up for sequels
Morgan Edge - Tom Berenger
Lex's godfather, and a shady Metropolis business man, who supports Lex to use him for his own personal advantages; again a small role, but something to be expanded upon in later sequels
General Sam Lane - Ed Harris
He admitedly hasn't got much of a physical presence, but he is intimidating nonetheless- there's just something cold, and harsh about him. Storywise, with the emergence of Superman, and Lex's growing paranoia/greed/jealousy of him, he convinces General Lane that Superman has alien technology that can destroy the planet and is the first 'foot soldier' for an alien invasion, essentially this leads to the introduction of Metallo and Parasite as a means to take him down
Rudy Jones aka Parasite - Doug Jones
I expect him to be portrayed much like how he was in the Secret Origin comic. Anyways, before the accusations against Superman start going out, a lowly LuthorCorp janitor ends up getting in contact with some toxic Kryptonite waste that turns him in an energy absorbing metahuman
John Corben aka Metallo - Jensen Ackles
Again I'd like him to be portrayed much like how he was in Secret Origin. However, just to give word of mouth to some more DC characters I like the idea of John Henry Irons designing the original Metallo battle suit, only for Corben to upgraded by Winslow Schott, leadin to him becoming something similar to a Kryptonite 'arc reactor' weilding male T-X terminator kind of cyborg metahuman super soldier
The Els - Viggo Mortensen & Maria Bello
Once more another small role, after Superman defeats Metallo, etc, he get his crystal back from Luthor and this leads to him building the Fortress and a small cameo type appearance from his biological parents paving way to the notion of exploring his Kryptonian roots more in depth for any sequels
Well, thats my take, hope you enjoy!
