Greetings to all, seeing as I usually skip the battle poll on Saturdays. JuggyPunch emailed me and suggested we also do a weekly match up where we put our heads together and come up with a logical, fair and objective conclusion on various popular match-ups. Today we started with Black Canary vs Black Widow, so without further ado:
Black Canary and Black Widow, they're the femme fatales of the Avengers and the Justice League. Both girlfriends of our favorite archers and both could (and have) beat the snot out of our favorite archers. But, what if they fought each other? Who would be the victor? Allow me to give you proper information on both characters as well as explain and give our official verdict on how the battle would end.
First, let's take a look at Black Widow. She's arguably the most lethal human female in the Marvel Universe (Elektra is the other one, Elektra's a better fighter but not as skilled in weapons, espionage, etc.) and is a master martial artist on par with maybe Bucky in terms of pure martial ability. Widow has also received numerous augmentations increasing her strength to peak for a female human. (roughly 500 lbs) Black Widow also is one of, if not THE world's greatest spy. She has all types of espionage, stealth, hacking skills, etc. Black Widow is also a very good tactician in her own right. She also carries numerous weapons like pistols and grenades as well as her secret weapon, the stingers.
With that said, now let's take a look at Black Canary. Black Canary is the JLA's femme fatale, she too is a master martial artist herself. Not only that, she's one of the best fighters in the DC universe. Almost on par with the likes of Shiva and Batman. Black Canary works out too, and if I remember correctly she can lift twice her body weight. (roughly 300 lbs) Canary is also a master tactician herself, and a great leader which is why she was one the chairwoman of the JLA. Canary also has a metahuman super scream dubbed the "canary cry" which has shown capable of shattering skulls.
The breakdown:
Now, this would be an epic battle. Both are master fighters and tacticians and both have different advantages over each other. We agreed that Black Canary is superior martially over Black Widow who is no slouch, it's not by much and Widow would hold her own but Canary if I remember correctly was in the top 7 fighters in the DC universe and can hold her own against those in the top 3 or 4. Black Widow on the other hand, would be lucky to make top ten. I could see it being argued that Widow's top ten in Marvel, but there are many arguments other wise. However, we both agreed that Black Widow outclasses Canary in raw physicality. Widow can lift roughly 500 lbs while Canary can lift roughly 300 lbs. It's not by much, but Widow obviously is superior physically. Now, as for their weapons Widow is superior in the long range weapons and munitions, but Canary has the nullifying scream.
The verdict:
Through and through, the both of us agreed that although Widow is superior physically. Canary's superior martial arts skills would tip the scales in her favor. And while Widow is better with the guns, Canary has the canary cry which more than makes up for Widow's munitions. Giving Black Canary the win 7 times out of 10.
The winner:
BLACK CANARY.
