James Caviezel

Matt Bomer

Eric Bana
...Of course he could play Lex Luthor instead but he'd make a good Supes.

Henry Cavill

ALL OF THESE GUYS FIT THE ROLE, AND THEY'RE BETTER ACTORS THAN BRANDON ROUTH.

BONUS:
Tom Welling

...With some [Correction: some SERIOUS] acting lessons he'd be perfect.

Now onto the the rest of the cast [Just throwing some new suggestions out there]:

Olivia Wilde as Lois Lane

Michael Angarano OR Seth Green as Jimmy Olsen

Alec Baldwin as Perry White

Paul Bettany OR Mark Strong as Lex Luthor

Idris Elba as Brainiac
...He's very versatile.

Adam Baldwin as Corben/Metallo

I never liked James Caviezel for Superman, he has a rat face.

The rest of the choices I agree with to an extent, Bana would make a pretty good Supes...I always though Hugh Jackman would make an alright Supes, since he has the look, the skills and the height for it, but I know people would just go "that's wolverine you can't cast him as supes blah blah blah"

But good casting so far :)

IM GOING WITH TOM WELLING( HE ALREADY KNOWS SUPERMAN) AND MY SECOND CHOICES Henry Cavill( LOOKS THE PART)

#1-Brandon Routh
#2-Matt Bomer
#3-Henry Cavill
@Ryden-Hugh Jackman would be a good Supes, but if were talking DC with him,I say Batman.
GoGoGadgetsBruh
GoGoGadgetsBruh - 2/16/2010, 6:41 PM
James Caviezel would be a great Jor-El in my opinion
an unknown for Superman!!
I like Sam Worthington as Zod or Gerard Butler if they did a prequel similar to The Last Days of Krypton
seanxvito
seanxvito - 2/16/2010, 6:42 PM
Tom Welling for Superman!!!

Jim Caviezel would be a great Cap. Atom.

and if we're gonna bring Hugh Jackman into the DCU then i think he should be either Green Arrow or Batman. he might even work for aquaman if the story was right.

It's unfortunate that Welling can't act to save his life.
InTylerWeTrust
InTylerWeTrust - 2/16/2010, 10:14 PM
"It's unfortunate that the only comic book movie actor to win an oscar for his acting in a superhero movie had to loose his."

Um, yeah, it kind of is...your point?

Welling is not capable of many things. He's not capable of providing a charismatic performance. He's not capable of conveying emotions without making the viewer laugh (case in point, when Clark cries after Pa Kent dies, I was ROFLing when I saw Welling "act" in that scene). He's not capable of avoiding line delivery that is akin to Hayden Christensen in Attack of the Clones. He's not capable of changing his stoic, blank, and, as Ror puts it, just-smelled-a-fart face from when he's on the couch flirting with Lois to when he's trying to save the city. He's not capable of avoiding a performance that makes Clark either unlikeable or annoying. He's not capable of looking like an actual SuperMAN, instead of a SuperBOY. He's not capable of commanding the group of Justice Kids on Smallville, let alone the Justice League. He's not capable of avoiding getting out-shined each and every single week by Justin Hartley. He's not capable of making me give 2 shits about his character (such as that BS thread about him being killed by Doomsday, I couldn't have cared less if he died, in fact, I would have rooted for Doomsday, or the sad attempt known as Doomsday, to kick the shit out of Clark)

I could go on. And on. And on.

But fair enough, you are a gigantic fan of everything Smallville, I am not. But honestly, when you say he isn't any less capable than anyone up there, you think that he is just as, if not more than, able to give a good performance than actors like James Caviezel and Eric Bana? That amazes me.
InTylerWeTrust
InTylerWeTrust - 2/16/2010, 10:56 PM
No, you don't have to be Shakespearian. And I was never talking about "success of ANY movie" so I don't know why you're bringing that up. I realize that some movies, no matter how shitty or stupid they are may do well financially. Revenge of the Fallen is a perfect example of this. But Welling's acting isn't anywhere remotely close to Shakespearean. It's flat out awful.

"What amazes me, is that you insist on pointing out your opinion on his acting abilities, yet fail to acknowledge others may disagree based on those contrary opinions you sited."

Did you not see this:

"But fair enough, you are a gigantic fan of everything Smallville, I am not."

That was me accepting that you like Welling and Smallville. I accept that other people have different opinions. If I didn't, I wouldn't have survived on this site. You don't have to put "IMO" after every comment, it's kind of a given that your comment represents your opinions just like my comments represent mine. I never once have said to anyone that they can't disagree with me, which you seem to be claiming I do. My comment above doesn't say "No one can disagree with me or they suck!" I never present my opinions as fact, they are opinions.

And the problem IMO with people using the "Heath Ledger Clause" to defend any casting choice they see is that he was IMO far from an average actor. The Patriot, Lords of Dogtown, I'm Not There, Brokeback Mountain (yes, I sat down and watched it). Ledger was great in every one of these, and showed great diversity and talent as one of the most promising young actors of he past few years. Welling hasn't done anything, absolutely anything, that comes near what Ledger did/was pre-TDK.

But you weren't talking about overall quality of the movie when comparing Welling's capability to the other actors' up there. You were comparing acting. The writing on Smallville definitely is piss-poor, but even when the writing has been great (Geoff Johns' Legion script, for example) Welling has come off just as terrible as he always does. He's been terrible throughout all 8 1/2 seasons, you'd think that maybe a couple times he'd be better, but no. If you can almost never give a convincing performance, throughout 8 1/2 seasons of a 1-hour TV show, I'd say that's pretty bad. And no, I don't fault Portman for the prequels. But really, she had f*ck all to work with. Welling has, like I said, occasionally gotten solid stuff to work with, and he failed with that too.

I don't want our debate to take over Tony's casting, so I'll just leave it at that.

@FutureFoe- Your argument is ridiculous. While I don't fully agree with Tyler about Tom Welling being a horrible actor [I think he's decent]...there is no comparing him to the likes of Heath Ledger. Heath Ledger was on another level even before "The Dark Knight", the dude was a great actor.
Tom Welling is nowhere near as talented as Heath Ledger was, and he hasn't shown that much growth as an actor...not to mention his movie choices have been horrible.
However, I think that if he took some serious acting lessons he'd probably make a great Superman...I do see some potential.
Logically they wont take that risk with him, Welling has no real chance of being cast as Superman on the big screen. I mainly put him up there as an honorable mention.
Ryden
Ryden - 2/17/2010, 1:19 AM
@FutureFoe- I'm sorry but as Tyler said Ledger proved himself early on in his career that he is diverse and oscar worthy, Lords of Dogtown is one of my favourite films...he was amazing in that, and obviously TDK, Welling is a carboard actor. Very rigid and he whines a lot on Smallville. I find it funny how when Tyler mentioned Ledger's previous movies you mentioned Tom Welling's CW acting career....not really the same. IMO Tom Welling should stick to Crapville and being Steve Martin's son in Cheaper by the Bad-Movie franchise.....he's just not a good actor.

flames809 - 2/17/2010, 9:49 AM
futurefor- tom has been in 4 movies including the movie on smallville. any ways i agree with you that tom welling is a decent actor and also want him to be superman in the next superman film even mr. reeve wanted him to be superman. and you got a point there he could surprise people like ledger did with the joker.

tonydark- you never know welling could be cast as superman. since he was the first choice when singer was doing super returns then welling said no and then they got routh.
Krauser199
Krauser199 - 2/17/2010, 12:01 PM
Tom Welling is perfect but wouldn't make it in a big screen movie so the next best choice in my opinion is James Caviezel the rest are perfect great cast!

P.S. Dang you beat me to casting Mark Strong as Lex

Tony@ damn i think this is the 1st fancast i hav read that had all new choices...and good 1's at that...im sick of reading fancasts that half of them r the ones already in the movie and the others r the same picks 4 EVERY movie lol...great job at thinking outside the cbm box and having a mind of ur own!

@FutureFoe-I see where you are coming from but the way you were going at it was ridiculous. It's possible if given the chance Welling could surprise us with a great Big Screen Superman performance. However, I don't think they're going to give him a shot based on the low level of acting ability he's shown.
Ledger was actually good in "10 Things I Hate About You", a little cheesy at times but that's what the film called for, it was a typical teen movie role.
Thanks though, glad you like the rest of the cast.

@flames- I guess we'll see. I sincerely doubt they'll cast Welling though.

@Krauser199-I agree. Thanks man.
I'm surprised nobody else suggested Mark Strong for Lex before me [somebody probably did but maybe not in a fan cast].

@XmutantX- Thanks man, glad you like my fan cast.
All of my Clark Kent/Superman picks have been suggested before on this site, except for Eric Bana. I remember Shaman suggested Caviezel last year.

With the rest of the characters I had to dig deep.

@ futurefoe ........I guess we'll leave it at that, indeed; it's a subjective matter of taste........ right!
and that's something alot of guys don't respect.

almost every choice of actors tony made I don't like.... but that's my opinion.... maybe I'm wrong and they would do just fine........ all of us have one thing in common! we love cb-movies(I think...lol)

and though I disagree with tony , at least he's a huge fan of superman, but............. he really hasn't got a clue.......lololol

LuckyKyd - 2/17/2010, 1:40 PM
Absolutely one of the best superman castings I have ever seen on this site.
And since this is a reboot, I think either Matt Boomer or Henry Cavill. But if they were going for an older more experienced Superman, then Caviezel would be my choice.

I especially like Bettany for Lex, Wilde for Lois and Urban as Zod. But as I said this is a very unique casting and therefore I have nothing bad to point out. I will be looking forward to your next fan cast with great expectations :D
MovieMisfit
MovieMisfit - 2/17/2010, 1:41 PM
@LuckyKid- Thanks for checking out my fan cast, glad you liked it.
I wanted to do something different, I'm tired of seeing the same people suggested in almost every fan cast [admittedly my Clark Kent/Superman picks aren't that original except for Eric Bana].
Thank you, I'll try my best on the next one as well.

@phenomenon-Thanks for checking out my fan cast. I respect your opinion even though you don't seem to have much of a clue yourself...lol.
Specifically which picks did you disagree with, and why?

phenomenon
phenomenon - 2/17/2010, 2:12 PM
I discus a few of them tony..... first of all, routh is my first choice, but as it goes for looks matt bomer could do, as it goes for face! I don't know if he's muscular enough and don't know about his acting skills.

lois lane-olivia wilde......... no absolute not! she looks great, but pussy-cat dolls great! a pop-singer, not a reporter!

both choices(as it goes for faces) for jimmy..... okay not to bad, I admit.

perry white- alec baldwin..... to puffy, and he looks more like a bank-manager who just got his bonus we paid for!lol.

for the main characters that's what I think of them.
MovieMisfit
MovieMisfit - 2/17/2010, 2:21 PM
@phenomenon- I'm not even going to get started on Routh, he wasn't given a fair shot but his screen presence was not strong enough for the role of Superman.
1. Matt Bomer is muscular, lean muscle is muscle too. Superman doesn't have to be a beefcake but he can hit the gym to get a little more bulky and there you go.
2. He's a better actor than Routh and has shown versatility on the show "Blue Collar".

Olivia Wilde is a good actress who I think has enough charisma, intelligence, and feisty-ness to portray Lois Lane. I can see where you're coming from though. My casting choices aren't based purely on looks.

Alec Baldwin would nail that role.

I'm assuming...you don't disagree with the rest of my picks?

phenomenon
phenomenon - 2/17/2010, 4:01 PM
you know tony....... we can discuss till we way a pound or two.... but we'll never agree on that...... the only thing I think we will agree, is that we both hope that there will be next sups-movies! and not 5 years away from now..... and if it isn't routh.... well too bad but i sure will learn to live with that!!

yeah for me routh did ok, but....... My first concern is all the delays of the cb-movies! it really takes too long.... and which actors will fill in the roles.... first the movie..... and than will see....

Idris elba and adam baldwin ....are good choices... I think!
MovieMisfit
MovieMisfit - 2/17/2010, 4:05 PM
@phenomenon- I agree, I can't wait for the next Superman movie and I hope they do it right.

Thanks man, glad you like most of my casting picks.
MovieMisfit
MovieMisfit - 2/17/2010, 4:11 PM
@Ryden- This is kind of late but...thanks man. I hope you like the rest of my casting choices.

@Jp499- Yeah, it does. Bomer would nail the part.

@Anil-Thanks man, I agree on Bomer. For a younger Supes he's the best choice. Caviezel is the best choice for an older Supes.

@seanxvito-Tom Welling doesn't have much of a chance.
I see you agree with LEE on Caviziel making a great Captom Atom...I could see it as well. I believe he'd make a great Superman though.

I could see Hugh Jackman as Hawkman.

NightAvenger4-Brandon Routh is not going to happen, besides his decent Christopher Reeves homage and likeness...he didn't have a strong enough presence.
I couldn't really see Jackman as Batman. As far as Superman is concerned, he'd make a decent Supes but he wouldn't make a good Clark Kent.

@MovieTheaterLad- I see where you're coming from, if Welling were cast it would confuse people; most people would automatically think that the movie is a continuation of Smallville. It wouldn't make Smallville canon though, Smallville is an alternate DC reality.

TONY @ Decent casting.
Very unoriginal [I'm not including that criticism for the roles that are already filled] though, except for your SUPERMAN picks. Your Caviziel pick is a bit old though. (lol)

P.S. Joking lol, just writing what you wrote! : P

A HELL NO TO [frick]ing TOM WELLINGTON BOOT!!

And CAVIZIEL = CAPTAIN ATOM dude!

SEAN @ Good stuff!!! ; )

Out of all them SUPES picks, its gotta be BOOMER!

You know ROUTH was picked over him though right??

The reason was ROTH was a much better SUPERMAN! ; D

The rest of the cast pretty good, not OLIVIA though, but really like METALLO, PARASITE and ZOD up there dude!

Seen BETTANY cast as LEX too many times, makes a better ADAM STRANGE or AQUAMAN!

But over all great first casting dude!

But i gotta say it......

ROUTHBOOT!!!!! : p

CRITIC17
CRITIC17 - 2/17/2010, 5:33 PM
I say switch Zod and Supes (Caviezel around)!!! But nice choices though... Bettany would freaking rule as Luthor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MovieMisfit
MovieMisfit - 2/17/2010, 7:54 PM
@LEEE- If they go with an older Superman, Caviezel is the man. I agree with you on him making a great Captain Atom though.

No, the only reason Routh was chosen over Bomer is because Routh resembles Reeves a little bit more. If he were a better Superman they would have cast him in this new movie already. He didn't have the screen presence to be a good Superman. He was an entertaining Clark Kent though.

I haven't seen Bettany cast as Lex that many times, mostly I've seen him cast as The Riddler [I think] or Loki.
What do you think of Mark Strong as Lex?

Also, Olivia would make a good Lois.
I should have put an extra suggestion up there to go with an older Supes though.

Thanks man, glad you like my first fan cast.

@The Critic- I could see Caviezel as Zod but I've seen that suggested already. I never really considered Urban for Supes though, and I'm not sure he could pull off how noble [or boy scout-like] Superman is.
Thanks, glad you like my casting choices.

teabag- Thanks man.
MovieMisfit
MovieMisfit - 2/17/2010, 8:28 PM
@Anil- Thanks for coming back and checking out the rest of my fan cast.
Colm Feore is a pretty good choice for Lex, kudos.

I didn't want to go with Rachel McAdams since she's already been suggested hundreds of times.
Lake Bell is an interesting choice, I could see that.
flames809
flames809 - 2/18/2010, 1:11 PM
tony- yea we'll see

lee- you know routh is the second best and BOOMER is the third best
MovieMisfit
MovieMisfit - 2/18/2010, 1:28 PM
@flames- I thought Cavill was your second choice behind Welling. "IM GOING WITH TOM WELLING( HE ALREADY KNOWS SUPERMAN) AND MY SECOND CHOICES Henry Cavill( LOOKS THE PART)"
flames809 - 2/16/2010, 5:19 PM

BOMER* is the best choice for a young Supes unless Welling gets some serious acting lessons.
ROUTH isn't going to get another shot no matter how much LEEE [the dude who campaigned for Jason Lewis to be Captain America] wants him to.
