My Top Fifteen Comic Book Movie Fight Scenes (Revised)

So I released a similar article about five years back. I was very naive about the article. I gave only very brief descriptions and reasonings to why I loved the scene so much. Well, I have now scene virtually every CBM now (except the completely terrible ones, as in Catwomen and The Spirit) and my taste in fight scene has expanded. I've also bumped the list up from ten to fifteen. I believe this article needs justice and should be rewritten. Be warn, there might be some possible spoilers in here if you haven't seen the movie. So without further ado,
the TOP 15.

15. Turtles vs The Foot in the Antique Shop (TMNT 1993)
I can't even imagine how much kids freaked out when this movie
first came out. Now, of coarse the suits don't quite hold up
today, but I still love it and think this is their best screen adaption
to date. It's kind of a funny fight, with some gag knock outs, but it's
just a ton of fun. Seeing all the  turtles do what they of the big screen
is awesome. Lets hope for the best with the new one, but that's a
very hard task.
14. Iron vs Thor (The Avengers 2012)
Ah, what a great way to start of this list, a fight
between two eventual teammates. This is just a plain
old knock around fight. You got two of the top Avengers
just beating the hell out of each other. It also showcases
the powers of each hero amazingly. Thor summoning electricity
upon Tony (which only helps him), Iron Man using his repulsors
to their full advantage, and Thor bringing the hammer down.
Of coarse, the fight is cut short by the always goodie goodie
Captain America.
13. Batman vs Bane in the Sewer (The Dark Knight Rises 2012)
Now, there was never any really spectacular fights in the recent
Batman trilogy. But, if I had to pick one fight, it's this one.
For one, Batman loses. He, simply put, gets his ass completely
kicked. Bane has no real trouble dealing with the Bat, and
shows how much more skilled he is. The fight also shows one of the
most iconic comic books scenes ever, the breaking of the Bat. It was
awesome finally seeing that iconic panel come to life, when Bane
simply, broke him.
12. Optimus Prime vs The Decepticons in the Forest (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen 2009)
Another movie that's not very good, but with a great fight scene.
Come on, who doesn't think this scene rules? Prime takes on Megatron,
Starscream, and Blackout. He destroys Blackout, kicks Starscreams ass,
but does eventually fall short to Megatron. But can you blame the guy?
I mean, good lord Autobots talk about leaving your leader for the dogs.
But, anyways, it's an amazing big robot fight with stunning CGI.
11. Punisher vs. The Russian (The Punisher 2004)
This is another one of those bloody, beat the living crap out of each
other fights. And I love it. Now, this movie wasn't really that good by any
means. Poor script and pacing drug this movie down. BUT this is a
bright spot. According to the internet, this follows the comics pretty
well from their first meeting (I've never read it). Frank takes one hell
of a beating, but pulls out the win. It finally takes boiling sugar and
a broken neck to take down this Russian bastard.
10. Hellboy vs King Nuada Final Fight (Hellboy 2: TGA 2008)
This is an AMAZING sword fight between the Red Ape and the King.
It has a great feel to it, and is a pretty long fight in all reality. I love
how it really shows off Hellboys skills with a sword. Even though this
story wasn't based off any specific Hellboy comic, it for sure has all
the feel of one (probably because Mignola helped write the story
for the movie). This is one of those fights, like many others on the
list that you can watch over and over again. Brilliantly choreographed
by the always amazing Mr. Del Toro, you will never be bored watching
this fight.
9. Nightcrawler vs The White House (X2 2003)
Nightcrawler will always be my favorite X-Men, and what Singer
did with him was completely awesome. Why does everyone bash
this guy anyways? X1 and X2 are awesome, and DOFP was one of
the best cmb's of all time, along with X-2. I guess the liking little
boys thing doesn't really help either, but I digress..back to the fight at
hand. This, once again, was a terrific showcase of his mutant
ability. The constant teleporting and knocking out guards looked
like it was taken right out of a friggin comic book. I  remember being
only 8 and wigging out seeing my favorite mutant kick ass. Will always
be an amazing fight.
8. Hulk vs Abomination Final New York fight (The Incredible Hulk 2008)
You want violence, you want massive destruction, you want Hulk
swinging a wrecking ball? Well, this is the fight scene for you.
There has yet to be another scene with Hulk as good as this one
(no offense to the Avengers). This was an amazing destructive
battle between Hulk and his arch nemesis. The both beat the living
hell out of each other. Seeing two massive comic characters come
to life like that was pure awesomeness.
7. Rorschach vs NYPD (Watchmen 2009)
This was my number one back in the last article, but that's mostly
because it was my favorite comic, the movie had just come out,
and I was super fanboying. Now, don't get me wrong, this is
still the best CBM to date, and this fight still rocks. With this
scene, you saw comic panels come to life. From Ror using the hairspray
to light police on fire, to him shooting his grappling hook
into a officers chest, it was adapted perfectly. Seeing one 5'5 guy
knock out 10 or so officers will always rule.
6. Spider-man vs Electro (The Amazing Spider-man 2 2014)
Another movie that gets WAY to much hate. Best Spidey film to date
IMO. This was maybe the best comic book style fight scene ever.
It felt like reading a Spidey comic. The CGI was amazing, showing
off how Spider-man and Electro should look like in a fight. The
bouncing between power towers, the viciousness of the fight, and
the clever idea Spider-man used to take down Electro makes this a
near perfect Spider-man fight.
5. Captain America vs French Pirates/Batroc (Captain America: The Winter Solider 2014)
Another fight from this years batch of amazing CBM's, is just
strictly awesome. The way they made Cap use his shield was just
perfect. I had to hold myself back from screaming "OH YEAH" in the
theater every five seconds. The quickness and and accuracy that Cap
has was perfect. He really displays his fight prowess in this fight, showing
how much ass the cap can kick. With a great no shield fight with Batroc
to end it, this  was Captain America's finest fight yet.
4. Daredevil vs Kingpin (Daredevil 2003)
Wait, what? Daredevil has anything in any top CBM list? Well, yes.
No, the movie wasn't perfect and the theatrical version is kind of
bland. But go watch the directors cut and you'll actually find a pretty
good movie. This is one of the most vicious fight scenes in CBM
history, IMO. MCD is terrifying as the Kingpin of Crime. His brutal
knocks on Daredevil will always come to mind for me when I think of
best fight scenes. And the final kick to break the kneecaps from
DD to Kingpin, is the single best takedown in any movie.
3. Wolverine vs Strikers Men (X2 2003)
If any CBM deserves two scenes on this list, it's X2. No scene has
better shown off Wolverine's abilities than this one. He takes down at
least 20 people. He is completely ferocious and animal like in this
fight, just as he should be. He does this all while saving students, and
getting them to safety. Hugh Jackman is the best at portraying his character
and he does it best here. I have literally just sat there and watched this
scene five times over. Seeing Wolverine slash, stab, and kill people
never gets old.
2. Spider-man vs Doc Ock Train Fight (Spider-man 2 2004)
And here is the best Spider-man fight. This has to be a dream to
any Spider-man fan, because it is just so kick ass. Seeing Spidey
and Ock just go at it was just like the comics. The flying through
a narrow gate, crawling all over the train, and the balancing act of
saving people and fighting, made it pure comic book movie perfection.
I'll never get tired of this scene, and that's why it's so high on the
list. Spider-man even completely over exerts himself to save the life
of hundreds, the true Spider-man way. Also, it's just freaking fun to
see them beat the crap out of one another.
1. Superman vs General Zod (Man of Steel 2013)
I probably just lost all of you here, but yes, this is by far the
best CBM fight scene ever. MOS is another movie which is completely
divided by fans. I'm on the spectrum of completely loving it. The fight
is just so well choreographed that it felt like comic book artists drew
up this scene. It does have a ton of destruction, but damn it I love it.
There is nothing like seeing Superman done justice on film. Even if
you hate the movie, you have to love this fight. I know it bothered a lot
of people when Superman snapped his neck, but what had to be done, had
to be done. It was perfect showing how devastated he was by his actions,
and how he truly did not want to do this. This fight truly came down to
a battle of wills, and it showed how Supermans will is just a little bit
stronger than everybody else's.
So, there's my Top 15! Do you agree with the list, do you think it's
total crap, or do you like about half of it? Sound of in the comments and give
me your opinion!

Good on all of them

Captain America's first or second fight with The Winter Soldier should be easily in the top five for intensity, choreography and emotion. As far as TASM 2 being the best Spider-Man movie, I don't hate it but, it has its problems.

Superman vs Zod would be number 1.
Superman's fight in Smallville number 2.
The Avengers vs the Chitauri number 3.
Captain America vs The Winter Soldier 4.
Batman vs Bane number 5.

Really good list! loved it.

I'd have basically every Mystique fight in the X-Men franchise too.

I know I'll have someone attack me for this or tell me to shut up, but I have the ask a question: what is the appeal of Superman vs. Zod? I'm sorry, but I don't get it. I really don't. The moves they are using are cool and visually, it's pretty, but in essence it's two superhumans running up at each other, hitting each other, the force sending them flying backwards, then again and again.

Neither combatant is taking any damage at all. In fact they don't even seem to be in pain. At least with Faora vs. Superman, it was evidence Clark was actually getting worn down and in some level of pain. There... they are hitting each other, but there's no damage, no pain, no tiring... and if there's a lack of feeling any danger for either the hero or the villain, what makes it compelling?

Again, I want someone to actually answer this question for me, because I simply didn't get it and perhaps I am not seeing something others are. In regards to the rest of your list, I really like it. I don't love all of them (TASM2, etc) though it's a good list.

Wow, some of my grammar really sucked, sorry guys haha. The reason the Zod fight is number one for me is plain and simple: it is more fun to watch this fight than any other. That's why I love it. ANd for the final Avengers scene, I omitted it because I just have trouble getting into it. Sometimes when I watch it, I lose interest and do something else haha. Maybe because it's just TOO big overall. The reason all of these are on here, is because they completly hold my interest for the whole duration of the fight.

I agree with you on Amazing Spiderman 2. It is the best Spiderman movie to date.

Nice list.

There's a thing about the Superman/Zod fight as well as the Avengers/Chitauri fight. Like, yeah they looked awesome, but they felt like had no threat. Like it seemed as if the fighting didn't mean anything, sure they were visually breathtaking but IMHO action is more about the context than the flash.

As for my favorites I can't really make a whole list because it'd be way too hard to put them in order. But Captain America vs Winter Soldier on the highway, and Spider-Man vs Doc Ock on the train are definitely the top 2. I also loved both of the X-Men fights against the future sentinels in DOFP, both were huge nerd boner moments for me and I could just feel the impending doom like a chill coming up my spine, and those sentinels were [frick]ing scary! The monster brawl at the end of TIH is a great one as well, probably the best pure CGI battle I've ever seen. Thor vs Hulk in Avengers is something I've been waiting to see since I was a little kid, and they executed it wonderfully. Batman vs Bane in the sewers has got to be DC's best action scene so far, so much emotion in that scene, so much on the line, breaking the bat is one of the most iconic CBM moments of all time and Bane's horrifying monologue was just icing on the brutal cake. Wolverine's fight against Shingen was perfect, and his rage in the mansion was the most iconic Wolverine moment yet. Nightcrawler's infiltration of the White House is such a well shot scene, it gave us a great depiction of just how badass Kurt Vaugner is and his powers and look were so badass. Spidey vs Goblin at the parade in 2002 movie was the iconic Spidey fight I had been waiting to see, and then the end fight of TASM2 was brilliant despite the film's AWFUL storyline. There was so much in the line in that scene...and Gwen's death was perfect. The opening fight against french pirates in TWS deserves a mention at least. I'm glad to see someone else liked Daredevil, and yes the end fight is awesome.

A helluva lot I know, but I just can't help it!
GuardianDevil
GuardianDevil - 6/14/2014, 12:25 AM
Oh, and I know it doesn't count as a fight but the moment in Fantastic 4 (2005) when Thing bursts through the wall and shouts "it's clobberin' time" and punches Doom through a wall is a fabulous scene as well. I just can't really include it as a fight because it's too short.,.,
GuardianDevil
GuardianDevil - 6/14/2014, 12:30 AM
Shit, forgot to add Superman vs Faora in Smallville!
GuardianDevil
GuardianDevil - 6/14/2014, 12:33 AM
Ah Christ! Rorschach & Nite Owl vs Ozy and Ozy vs Comedian....god there's just way too many!!
KurtCrawler

In all honesty, this list could go on forever. I think Iron Man vs Iron Monger, the Sentinal fights in DOFP, Supes vs Feora, and Blade vs Nomak would round out my top 20.

Ooh, I forgot about the elevator scene in Cap 2 also. That movie probably had the best overall action of any CBM ever. I just thought the opening scene was a little better than the other fights, and I really didn't want to include movies twice. (I know X2 is on here twice, but it's probably my favorite CBM ever, tied with Watchmen.)
